Well it seems the Ceado is off the table. Not buying from a grey importer, especially one that is not up front about how they run their business.

So other than the Atom, which was my first choice before I came across the Ceado, there doesn't seem to be many other options in my price range that are relatively compact and quiet.

I do quite like the ECM V Titan 64, although a little more expensive, it looks like it might be more robust, however probably much louder in operation. Although it grinds so much quicker!

Jamie, you should take one for the team! Buy from the 'piano dude' and let the forum know how good his backup and service is? You will be known as bowling balls Jamie for your bravery, where I will forever be known as marbles for taking the safe option of buying an Atom for a sponsor, Casa Espresso.

He is too effing busy trying to sell pianos!!! He figures the grass must be greener on the other side of the fence.

            Hi Wilson,

yes when i went to call you back i hit 6 on my phone rather then 3 and it deleted your message.

Give me a call back when you are free 0411 648 487

Piano sales have been slow this week so I think we will stick to purely coffee related equipment

            cheers

When you buy from them you will be charged GST and an $80 government import fee. By then its too late when the goods are sitting in Australian Customs.

Wilson, if you do want an Atom and are ready now send me a PM and we will gladly help a CS member

              cheers

Thanks for the heads up on this. I had noticed when shopping around that some of their prices looked almost too good. Website and everything seemed all above board too. Something just didn't smell right though. I looked up their listed address and it was a serviced office in the middle of Sydney. Made me suspect it was a grey importer.

Thanks Antony for the great service.

I purchased a Eureka Atom grinder, which arrived today. A nice solid piece of equipment, and very quiet. Need to spend some serious time dialling it in though!

One interesting observation between the Breville and Atom. I could easily get 21g into my pf before, but now the grinds are so much fluffier that I struggle to get more than about 18 before I either need to stop or try and shake the pf. Otherwise I get spill over. Something to get used to I guess.

                  Thanks again.

                  Cheers
                  Jamie

Make sure you keep the level of the bend in the hopper as consistent as you can while dialling in or you'll end up chasing your tale.

Do you mean try and keep the same amount of beans in the hopper whilst dialling ?

I mean different levels of beans in the hopper will produce a different size particle for the same setting. Due to the retention if you change the grind setting after every shot you pull and you're not topping up the hopper you'll be making a shot with a grind size from a setting or two previous. You'll pull a good shot and then try to do it again but either because you changed the grind setting the shot before or the level of beans in the hopper has dropped significantly the next shot won't be the same even though you didn't change anything.

                            Thanks for clarification.

I haven't been topping up after every shot, but certainly not running it empty.

Although in day to day practise I will have to do the same if I want any consistency then! Almost like single dosing, but with extra beans in the hopper.

I generally top up after about 4 double shots. I think it's more important now while you're dialling in because you're not used to it, so you won't know to make an allowance for minor changes.
