  • Dialing in Rocket Fausto

Hi i have a new rocket fausto and just wondering if anyone can help with a starting point. I know its a stepless grinder so you cant give me grind setting but can provide time " 7.8sec for 18g basket" for example and i can work from there. Will just give me something to go by.

    Thanks michael

If you're looking for "X" seconds = "X" grams of grinds, you're better off buying a cheap 0.1g scale from ebay and checking the dose every couple of days to be more precise. Because different beans/grind settings will fluctuate your dose.

As kyeba said each bean will be different. You'd be best off to feel the ground coffee and aim for table salt, then adjust based on the pour. You should be close in no time.

Mine is currently at about 3.7 and 14.7sec but varies from coffee to coffee and roast to roast. A Yirrgacheffe was dialed out to about 5.4 and 12.8sec. Over a bag of coffee you’ll have to keep changing the grind as the coffee gets older too. Enjoy you new toy!

The time of the grind depends on the type of bean and as the bean adages it changes as well. I have had from 10 seconds to 15 seconds in variation for approx 21 gms in the Portafilter

As said by others, grind time changes by bean and weather, but I typically find for a 20g grind in my double basket it’s anywhere between 9.9 sec to 10.9 secs.
That will give me about the right grind for 40g espresso in 28-30 seconds. The thing I find with the Fausto, is once you have it dialed in and need a to make a slight change, very small turns (mm) can make a big difference.

I just picked up a Fausto today and aimed for 18.5gms of grind giving 37gms of espresso in 30 seconds. I have the grind dial on 6.5 and a grind time of 9 seconds. That should get you close....ish.
