  • Can anyone tell me this brand of grinder? Is it a Mazzer?

    https://youtu.be/4PZkTrwR-UU
I picked up this grinder today from a cafe but it doesn’t have any stickers or badges on it. It has 83mm burrs and is super heavy duty. It came with a Expobar Megacrem single group.
I’m wondering if it’s a Mazzer Jolly model or not?
Anyone know what they are worth second hand?

    Help please?

Mazzer Super Jolly looking hopper : they are 64mm burrs.

    Mazzer Major 83mm burrs
    https://www.mazzer.com/en/grinder-dosers/major/

Where did you see it was 83mm burrs?

Someone is selling a Super Jolly on FS here for $300. Use the search box to find other examples.

The shape of the casing (particularly the protruding part at the lower front) plus the location of the power cord suggests this is an older version. Normally the hopper style (without the black collar at the bottom that engages the safety switch behind the adjusting collar) would suggest it is a Super Jolly, but the adjusting collar looks like a Major sized one, and 83mm burrs = Major, so to me that says older model Major Auto. Really old ones have cast doser bodies and the main power switch is a bakelite rocker switch, so it is not ancient, just not the current version, but should be basically compatible with spare parts for current models other than the hopper.

It cant be a SJ as They dont have the cooling fins in the case at the upper sides.
As its a flat blade and 83mm means it can only be a Major.
I have never measured the hopper throats ...so assuming that the smaller size / older shape (straight sided)
commercial hopper ala the SJ style hopper fits.

Joe if you wouldn't mind...I'd like to know what the total weight of grind retention is (Grind Chamber Retention), in the class of grinder.
Any chance you could run a few shots thru it and then disassemble sweep out and measure ?

            Much appreciated if you could.

What they're worth ? Variable obv. Most of the value relates to how it presents. And most in this class get a (cosmetic) beating.
Also few cafe sites use a 'doser' style grinder nowadays ...unless they're using old school over roasted stale beans from a
super volume commercial supplier like V.....a or L.....a or similar.

              Over roasted stale beans... Rediculous!
The roaster I have been using in canning Vale, his beans are $4 per kg dearer than Vittoria.
I put the guys at work onto them, at 4kg per week usage.

OK - What's that got to do with this thread?

Nothing. Delete it if you want.
Only in response to a comment by espresso adventurer. A furthur to the conversation.... Idle chit chat
Fairly clear to me that the thread will die now as the query has been answered, so I see no harm in it going off topic.

Unless I have forgotten a rule here about all posts to be on topic
