Does anyone have a recommendation for a grinder specifically for Moccamaster? I recently got one this and have been using an early model Breville BCG800. Which I use for v60, aero, delta, trinity and the old Silvia I had. It’s served me well, but placed against a nice Mint green Moccamaster it just looks silly.

I nearly bought a manual Commandante a few weeks ago as I was almost exclusively brewing with the Delta but as I may be grinding upwards of 60gms for the Moccamaster I fear a manual grinder may no longer be the best choice.

What’s the consensus on the Moccamaster grinder? Personally I don’t think it’s visually a step up from the Breville but if it’s better for filter I will consider.

I've never used the Moccamaster grinder, but the reviews I read didn't rave about it. Even just in theory, it's a blade grinder which are generally considered less awesome.

I bought the Wilfa Uniform and I love it! My old Sunbeam EM4050 used to clog up the Moccamaster filter basket with fines and even on the coarsest setting would almost overflow when trying to brew 750mL. With my Uniform I brew on setting 28 (out of 40) and are really enjoying the coffee I make. Visibly more consistent grounds. Flavour clarity is highly improved.

I had to order the grinder from overseas, and so don't have a local reps help if anything goes wrong, but for under $500 I have a grinder with large flat burrs that looks the part and does a great job. I might get flamed for that here, but I'm ok with it. The Uniform's designed for brewing filter coffee, which nearly nothing else seems to be, and from James Hoffman's review on YouTube I kinda figured for the money I'd have to get an EK43 to do THAT much better for my needs. I know that's a big call, but that's my perspective in an espresso-based market.

A blade grinder?!? Moccamaster's reputation just fell into the gutter, down the sewer, and got washed away off to the ocean where it will sink into the deep, dark depths to rest with the bones of the fishes for me. Run away! Run very fast and very, very far from it! You might as well smash your beans between two bricks.

We shouldn't dismiss a blade grinder out of hand. If you were really stuck with having to use one, there are some ways in which to achieve an acceptable grind.

James Hoffman did an interesting video on this which is worth watching to prepare yourself for that occasion where you might have to make do with what you've got. It includes a nifty method to remove fines with nothing more than a paper towel.

Eureka have just released a grounds catcher so that their Atom can be used for filter. I’m pretty sure you can get the Atom in green as well so might be worth looking at. (I’m pretty sure it’s the Atom, might be the Mignon. I’m sure you’ll find it).

If you want great coffee then yes, you should dismiss buying a blade grinder out of hand. If you are out and about and there is nothing else to use (Including bricks. ) then sure, use a blade grinder to make some French Press. Otherwise...

I had a blade grinder about 40 years ago, tore the blades of it trying to grind soy beans (hard little suckers) for my horse, best thing that could have happened to the bloody thing.

That DEFINITELY needed an OE Apex.

My Atom came with one in 2017 out of the box, I'm pretty sure they all do. I think they've just released a smoked hopper and smoked grounds bin which are clear as standard.

The Mignon also comes in green, and maybe it's the Mignon you're thinking of with the grounds bin, they've just released some new Mignon models aimed more at filter with grounds bins.
