Does your chute look exactly like this or a bit less beefy?

Hi Mark, I have the model below yours, the Atom, so not sure if this is directly applicable. Had it about 9 or 10 months, blocked once only in that time. It had blocked due to an oily roast (my fault) so pulled it apart and cleaned it totally with a rag. The most crucial part for a proper clean after the oil was the ziz zag metal declumper. This part is easily seen at the top of Ninja's picture. When I just do a standard clean I just clean between the zigzogs with a pin, for the oily roast I pulled it out, only 5 minutes more. If yours has the same chute as mine I would guess some darker roasts or maybe some manufacturing residual substance. Either way I would try the thorough clean before anything else. Mine works perfectly beside that one incident and would expect yours to do the same

Thanks heaps for the advice. I believe they are all same configuration, I removed the burrs yesterday and found the blockage at the top of the chute behind the Anti clumping device. I am thinking I may have the same issue as you had in that I have just changed roast to a Merlo roast. I will go back to my standard blend over the weekend and see if that resolves the issue. I have had next to zero retention up this time so it was frustrating me.

No, mine is different in it does not have the top retaining clip. The grinder is only 3 weeks old so I am hoping it has the latest version of the chute. Im hoping the bean blend may not agree with it so will go back to original blend on weekend and see if it resolves my issue. Thanks for your help.

Mark if you have access to compressed air makes it easier and cleans every last particle out before getting the rag in to remove oily residue. Especially easy to clean around the burrs in the burr chamber, much more effective than a brush.

I have the " blow up " hopper that does a pretty good job of purging the air out. Once I change beans on weekend if I still have issues I will take apart and clean again. I took the chute out yesterday and cleaned out the chamber but still clogging, I am hoping that its the beans

You are right there! Had grounds all over my carOriginally posted by Caffeinator View PostVacuum- rather than blow.
Compressed air is excellent if you want to get ground coffee into places where it shouldn't be.
Marksosh, I would clean at changeover, in my case the oil was just visible, am sure my problem woul have reappeared if I hadn't cleaned

I cleaned again today however still have grinds built up at the anti clumping grille. have moved it away from beside my GS3 as it puts some heat out and possibly having humidity issues. Appears to be clean however will play a little more over weekend and see if I get better results. I guess I only discovered this issue when I started using the blow up system and purging the chamber , its very possible it has always retained a few grams at the top of the chute.
