There is plenty on utube about how to realign burrs after pulling it apart. There is no burr teeth touching, there is a machined shoulder that is the bit that you can hear rubbing.
The smell will be old grinds, and your good clean will get rid of most of that.
I use a bent cabletie to get under the centre shaft support that is at bottom of bean hopper, stuff likes to collect there. Also after use, I look under and brush out around the bottom of the moving burr, above the bottom bearing carrier, and around the bottom stationary burr. I use a small paintbrush for this, and it then leaves almost nothing to go stale.

Lido 3 Grinder - Odd Smell?

The smell isn't really an issue, it sounds like it may have just been stale coffee. I didn't take it fully apart, OE publishes some detailed instructions so I was able to clean everything without taking apart the burr carrier. Thanks!

Very difficult to guess at the smell without any description of it. Re the burrs touching, depending on exactly how far you 'took the grinder apart', it is possible that the burrs are out of alignment. But if you are getting the desired results with the aeropress etc, I wouldn't worry too much about it.Originally posted by Pilot View PostThanks for the reply. It was fairly easy to clean, there wasn't any staining on the burrs and the residual coffee brushed off easily. The burrs only rub when they're grinding very fine, no problems at courser grinds.

Lido 3 Grinder - Odd Smell?
First post here, I just acquired a used Lido 3 Grinder and have just finished giving it a good clean and ran some beans through it. While cleaning it I noticed a somewhat strong smell, the neoprene bag it comes in has the same smell. I'm fairly inexperienced when it comes to coffee equipment so really have no idea what the mystery scent is, it could just be the materials used in the grinder.
On another note, I took the grinder apart and reassembled it, and from what I've read a small amount of burr rub is normal on the finer settings and shouldn't effect grind consistency or quality? I'm using it for Aeropress and V60, so won't necessarily need the finer settings, however I would be interested in exploring the effects different grinds have.
Thanks in advance for any advice.Last edited by Pilot; 3 January 2020, 11:09 PM.Tags: None
