I have the stepped version of the M2M and it's been great. But maybe somebody could help with a question I've had for awhile. From the point I hear the burrs chirping, the espresso grind is only 2-3 steps coarser. On the number dial this is like going from 1 to 2. Doesn't this seem wrong? For an espresso grinder, it doesn't seem right that the usable range is so tiny. Any finer and the burrs chirp, any coarser and it's too coarse. I can only use like 1/9th of the dial and have a range of 3 steps for espresso.
Can anybody verify if this is normal?

Unfortunately, this is a limitation of a stepped grinder when your coffee preference is espresso based, hence why stepless infinity adjustment methods are preferred. Still all good though, as you can make fine adjustments where necessary, by adjusting the dose slightly...

I bought the model with the built in timer which is a great feature that takes the guesswork out of dosing. Very happy with the grind but am a bit sus about the motor because it stalls really easily if I pour in grind crystals too quickly, having to open up the burrs to release the stuff. Be interested to hear if anyone else has experienced this otherwise I’m thinking I bought a bad machine which is now out of warranty..☹️

Of all the weird and wonderful things people out through their grinders I've never understood cleaning products. If it is truly rancid these aren't going to fix it. You're far better off cleaning your grinder the old fashioned way. I don't know how hard these "crystals" are, but I assume they're pretty soft? You shouldn't even put coffee back through a grinder once it's been ground so I don't know how this stuff would go if it's got any structural integrity to it.

Not sure if this is the place to ask - I've got a stepped M2M and have been enjoying it a year or two for daily espresso. No problems here with the increments.
Yes the espresso setting is not far away from burrs chirping I think that is normal. I have read it is possible to retrofit the microadjustor into the M2M but I have not done it.
I really do wish it had a timed function though. What grinder should I look at in terms of upgrade with a timer? M4d?
Thought about a mazzer mini E but heard they are slow to grind? Will do some more reading here

Got my hands on the stepped version second-hand for a great price and I've been loving it so far! I upgraded from the smart grinder which was causing me grief and the first thing that struck me was the awesome build quality.
For a not-too-dark roasted bean I get about 18g in 13sec with minimal clumps which is plenty fast for me at home.
Re: stepped vs micrometric - I'm finding that the steps are perfectly small enough to make fine adjustments.

The Mini is slower than a number of other grinders, but at approx 1g/s it's fine for home use. Other options are the M4D (or newer version M42D), Eureka Atom, Mahlkoenig Vario, Compak E5OD, Baratza Sette 270 & 270Wi (though these have not been proven reliable in the long term, e.g. 3 years+), and probably others.Originally posted by hallph View PostI really do wish it had a timed function though.
