Many inverters and smaller generators would have trouble coping... though you would think mains power at caravan parks would be OK.
Around here mains power at caravan (RV) parks are notorious for low voltage. I would suspect that would be less of a problem on around there, but it may still rear its ugly head on occasion and could well be the source of the problem. :-/

Lizzi, regular stalling should not happen.

My old Iberital grinder is well under 200 watts and has never stalled (stones, nuts and bolts excepted).

The Cunill at 3x the power certainly doesnt stall.

I would suspect the power input or capacitor. When a capacitor starts to show its age the motor will just hum rather that spin over. Yours hasnt reached that stage, but may be intermittently there.

The start up current required will be several times the specified run current. So at, say, 400 watts, youll need up to 2000 watts to kick it over momentarily when you switch on.

My EM0450 jammed a few weeks ago.

I had to pull the burrs out to give it a good clean because I couldnt see the bean that was jamming it.

All was good when it went back together.

    (The Macap has never jammed.)

but it is interesting that the stall never happens wiht the smaller beans, such as the ismalii or one of the peaberries... :-?
Yeah thats a strange one mate. Ive never experienced it in any of the grinders Ive owned, even a little Lux job.... they all just ripped through the beans without hesitation so it does sound anomalous to me anyway. Itll all be sorted out in the fullness of time Im sure. All the best Lizzi,

    Mal.

    Gotcha Lizzi,

Could be down to a very ordinary power supply too of course. Having said all that though, probably wouldnt hurt to have the Start/Run Capacitor(s) checked out to make sue its(theyre) ok or a connection hasnt broken off. Grinder motors are designed to generate quite reasonable starting torque with the aid of a suitable capacitor so something might be amiss there? :-?

    Cheers,
    Mal.

    Re: Grinder Jammed

thanks guys, but i check my beans ( :P) very carefully before they go in the bags... no stone (or bolt or nut..) left unturned ;D

and, to be truthful, since i am using Ms Carimali exclusively when on-shore, the incidence of stalling has reduced significantly.
it mostly happens when i stop the grind to fill the PF, then realise i dont have enough and want to grind some more.
a simple opening of the throat (even without grinding anything) and then turning back to the original grind-setting fixes it.
when i had Mr Rocky i had to grind for a second or two on the coarse setting before the obstruction disappeared.
and, it only happens with the larger beans, not the smaller ones.

now, it could ofcourse also be that it has nothing to do with the beans, but more with the quality of the juice coming through the PP... caravan park power supplies and all that... i know for a fact that Ms Carimali does not like the inverter, she simply wont start.

Likewise with the LSM too JB,

Not so small a footprint though but weighs a ton also, and nothing but nothing stalls that motor. I dont think the M3 is a lightweight either though, at least 14Kg and with a 350W (nearly ½ HP) motor I think, so should be able to rip through beans of any size ok. Maybe the odd stone is finding its way into the grinder Lizzi and this is stalling the motor, you probably dont even notice the dust once the grinder gets up and running again ,

    Lizzi....

You need a La Cimbali jnr....

Nothing ever stops her grinding (and Ive been grinding quite a bit of both recently)..... but you would need stronger springs on the bus.... might have a smallish footprint - but weighs a ton!!

    no problems, S....
the stuck grinder happens about once per day here... particularly if i have a blend which contains PNG "AA" or Margopype.
after the first heart-stopping times you get used to it! ;D

    cheers,

    Re: Grinder Jammed

could be a larger than normal bean getting stuck... it happens...
adjust the grind:  open the burrs up to a really course setting,  grind a second or two, then return the burrs to normal setting.... that is normally enough to clear the offending bean.
you will have to dump the grinds and start again for your god-shot, tho

if the grinder still doesnt want to move, it could be a stone or piece of metal holding the burrs... and you will need to pull the grinder apart!!

    started a topic Grinder Jammed

    Grinder Jammed

    GDay fellow CS

I just had a go at grinding some beans Id roasted a couple of days ago, & all of a sudden, the grinder seemed to get jammed, however the motor tried to continue spinning the burrs. I emptied out the beans & tried again & the same thing happened again moments later. I finally finished the grind but this is the first time that has happened to me after over a month of use.

    Is this normal?
What would cause this all of a sudden?
    Is it preventable?

    Thanks in advance
