    Hi im new to cs
been a bit of a lurker as there is a wealth of info here

i wonder if one of you coffee gurus could answer the following for a noob with a rocky
i cant seem to get a fine enough grind on it for my - also new - silvia.
ive read about finding the correct "zero point"on the grinder and at zero on the counter the grinders are touching just - i think as it makes no noise at 2 tiny noise at 1 and a bit more at 0.

i worked my way back from about 6 as recommended in the manual but even at zero i have to updose a lot to get a proper shot in 25secs
    it tastes ok....
ive noticed some ppl say there zero point is negative?
i wondered how this is possible as i cant make the counter go into the negative?
im a bit worried about doing that anyway as i get a little grinder noise at zero ...
but even my old delonghi burr grinder - dont laugh - gets a finer grind at 3 than rocky does at 0

thanks for helping a poor noob get his daily coffee hit again! (hate leaving the house to get a coffee without already having one under my belt!)
    cheers
    dave
Hey, I wouldnt knock the Delonghi grinder, Im using one, have been now since starting out 2 years ago and its always given me a grind that has the right consistency and damn nice coffee. After all, isnt it the taste of the coffee that is the effect we are all after.

Ill think about a new machine, if I ever find the money to spend, as my Sunbeam is starting to get a of a burden on the upkeep side, (used and used and abused, not surprised). But, if I ever get the money to waste, then may consider looking at another grinder if I find one that isnt too much for what you want in the end result...

Ok Matt and Dave- the Abridged version is:

With the grinder switched off and unplugged
[*]Unscrew the 3 screws in the hopper and remove the hopper[*]Undo the brass top burr holder- and clean it, the balce and the lower blade thoroughly (I use a coarse grinder brush to do this)[*]Reassemble and tighten until the top an bottom burrs are in contact- i.e you cant tighten any further and then back off the grind by 1/4 turn. This will be approximately the correct grind for espresso[*]Reassemble the hopper assembly- if you orient the hopper correctly, your now ballpark espresso grind should read 10 on the scale on the hopper.[*]Enjoy your newly mini-serviced grinder....

    Chris

    Hi Dave,

It will be an easy fix.....

Rather than writing a thesis, Im happy to talk you through it if youd like to give me a buzz...

    Chris
    Chris,

I might have the same problem - grind not fine enough at a very low setting - is there an abridged version of the thesis?
