Re: EM0480 Grinder - differences in 2 identical mo
Hi, it came with a silver lid, but like you the box displays the black lid.
Yeah, I was happy with the price. Having read info from this forum, I went armed with info that GG elsewhere had sold them for $170 - the salesman said "Gee thats cheap, Ill guess Ill do it for $169 then" - SOLD

Great price, well done! For the record did it come with a silver or black lid?

Hi happibrewer. Yes, these are great grinders. Some say the step adjustment is too big but I havent found this to be a problem at all. That said I think there are some threads in the forum outlining simple mods to give even finer control if you want to.
You wont go wrong with this grinder. They give a good grind. The hopper is the perfect size for the home brewer (and roaster like me) and it is simple to clean. Go for it.

Overall though, are you happy with the Sunbeam? I really need to upgrade my grinder, and for me this seems like the best value for money.

Re: EM0480 Grinder - differences in 2 identical mo
Hi ant,
Even with the most expensive grinders the scales are arbitrary.... they are there for a relative indication only (one number finer or coarser).... they hardly ever agree from one machine to the next (of the same make and model)....
And with Sunbeams issue of the burrs sinking into the carrier with age, this will be especially true.
It is not possible to grind at say 10 on several "identical" grinders and get the identical (or even close to identical) pour time - that is just a fact of life.

EM0480 Grinder - differences in 2 identical models
I have 2 of these grinders, purchased a few months apart. One is used for decaf (for my pregnant wife) and the other is used for regular beans. As far as grind quality I have not had any problems; they both give me a perfect grind for my Sunbeam EM6910.
But a few comments/concerns:
The second grinder I purchased came with a stainless steel hopper lid whereas my first grinder came with a black plastic one. Both boxes featured the black lid on the pack so I called Sunbeam to find out why the difference. They tell me that they now come with the stainless lid? Thats fine, but should you be like me and have two of the same then you like them to look the same. Anyway, after refusing to pay for a replacement they sent me another black one free of charge. After all, I wasnt getting what was shown on the box. Some may say that the stainless lid is better but I like the simple black one better as it looks more commercial. Problem fixed.
The second issue I face is that the grind settings are very different on the two models when using exactly the same beans. On my original one I have the grind setting on about 10 whereas on the newer one it sits on 15! I took the newer unit apart to see if the burr wasnt sitting flush but nope? They are just different? I havent spoken to Sunbeam about this and in the scheme of things I guess it doesnt matter but it would have been nice if they were calibrated the same.
Anyone else using two of these grinders with such differences?
