  • Gino Rossi MC

I managed to get my hands on a G Rossi MC (conical) grinder.
It looks in good condition and runs smoothly and quietly.

With my internet down and a busy weekend Ive only had time so far to do a quick test and clean the hopper.

The doser sweeps very clean but before using it Id like advice on how to clean it.
Unlike my Macap, it hasnt been stored in the best of conditions for the last few weeks and Id like to ensure its clean before passing coffee through it.

P.S. weighs 19.3kg and dwarfs the Macap.

    Good catch TG [smiley=thumbsup.gif],

Theyre HUGE alright . I guess its the same as for any grinder really, strip the top section back so that you can access all parts that come into contact with coffee. Unless it makes any strange noises there probably isnt any reason to strip it back to the bare motor, etc but maybe if you just want to know that all is good, this might be a worthwhile thing to do.

Would probably be a good (and healthy) idea to strip the Doser down and give it a thorough cleaning, you never know what might have crawled in there while its been sitting around waiting for you to find it. Should be a real beauty though once you get her ship-shape 8-). All the best mate,

    Mal.

      Great pickup TG  8-).

The MC is an excellent workhorse and I have had them in a few cafes. Give it a good once over as Mal has suggested and you should have the last grinder youll ever buy. If its done a heap of work, you may have to throw some new burrs at it, but other than that youll be in conical heaven.

Are we going to see a Macap up in the for sale section shortly  :-??

Yes 4 but the Sunbeam needs a part.

No chance the Macap will be up for sale.
It fits nicely on the kitchen bench.

I was hoping to avoiding stripping it down too far as it runs smoothly and looking from the top the burrs look good.

            Thanks for the congrats guys.
The review will come after its cleaned, dialled in and trialled.

Ill put up some before pics as soon as I can.

What I need to know is what I should be using to clean the doser with.

                  Re: Gino Rossi MC

Good stiff brush, a small vacuum, and possibly some alcohol wipes. Disassembling the sweeping mechanism shouldnt be too much of a problem, as long as you dont forget how to reassemble it. If its anything like the other Rossi grinders, grounds also like to get "glued" on the inside of the chute. Give that a good going-over as well.

ozscott - no upgraditis - just a bargain.
Ill add grinder when my internet is back up properly.

nunu - thanks - I have the brush and vacuum. Ill check the chute.

Maybe you could donate one of your grinders to a poor cafe owner who cant afford a grinder for decaf? ;D

As nunu already said above plus if there are some really stubborn tarry oil build-ups in the doser or any other part of the coffee path, a good soak in a hot solution of Cafetto works wonders..... At least for those bits that you can disassemble and soak ,

In some cases, a tiny plastic scraper, used as a chisel, might be the go too.

Having cleaned a used grinder before, I can recommend isopropyl alcohol for almost instant removal of coffee oils. Its an excellent solvent for this purpose as it is safe to use with acrylic and doesnt evaprate too quickly. Almost miraculous in its cleaning ability.
