  • em0480 unexpected setting

Working on a Sunbeam em0480 on the weekend using beans just over a week from roast.
Expecting a setting about 6 and ended up at 26 almost off the course scale to stop choking on the em6910. Thought it might be a mod in new grinders by Sunbeam.
Good to know it has the ability to go finer if required but what about a filter grind?
    Any one else getting this.

Are you sure the top burr has been put back in correctly?

You will find a ton of information here on the em 0480 and not all positive either, although having said that I still use mine at home with a number of modifications you will find it under the subject heading "how to fix those dreaded em0480 problems for good"

If you dont lock the top burr in properly that is what will happen. Line up the markers in lock it in. This happened to me on my EM450 when I first tried it but soon sorted it out.

Yep greenman and Ray. Ive been following the thread on the em0480 and the suggested mods and will be checking the alignment. Just didnt expect it to be out on a new machine.

              Re: em0480 unexpected setting

You need to take the top burr out, unscrew the lower burr and remove one of the washers under the burr...

I think MarcS is spot on, my brand new grinder was exactly as you described ** and a phone call to the sunbeam hotline told me to remove the lower burr and remove one of the spacer washers (leaves one remaining) and it now seems to be more in the calibration range....Jeez you go thru a lot of beans trying to get it just right tho!

if the top carrier isnt in correctly it grinds way too course, not fine

sounds like sunbeam are trying to push the inevitable not fine enough on 1 drama out, luckilly 12months on I am still doing ok on 15

My em0480 is set on 22 for single shot at the moment I take it back about 2 or 3 spots for a double
