Re: First time grinder - Mocopan
Ive just rebuilt a La Cimbali Junior of a similar vintage -

I replaced both bearings, which really needed doing. It is a job that involved taking everything apart, including pulling the motor apart. Its not significantly hard, especially with a digital camera to remind me what goes where, but it is a lot more involved that your basic clean.

Re: First time grinder - Mocopan
Yep, I second Davids recommendation. These grinders are built to take it, forever and a day, so with a bit of a clean-up and maybe some new burr-plates if theyre needed, youll be one happy camper nu2.... 8-)
All the best,
Mal.

Re: First time grinder - Mocopan
Great grinder, good price. Grab it while you can. Put in new burrs and youre laughing.
With the cadet, you need to unscrew the hopper, take apart the worm drive mechanism (plastic) and unscrew the burr carrier. It is reverse threaded.

Re: First time grinder - Mocopan
Hi again, I have done my homework! the machine is a La Cimbali Cadet manufactured in 1995. It was fired up for me (still had beans in it). Apart from it needing a good clean it looked ok.
Asking price is $400.
Over to you guys!
Thanks again,
Steve.

Re: First time grinder - Mocopan
Thanks Mal,
Details are sketchy at the mo, as the machine is about a week away from arriving, apparently a large establishment in Melbourne is being re-furbed and the equipment is being sold off. Ill try to get more info....

Re: First time grinder - Mocopan
Hmm...If its old and its Mocopan, its almost certainly a Rancilio....They did do some LaCimbali stuff in the time of my uncle- way back pre mid 70s...before they became Cerebos and threw coffee quality to the wind

And Welcome to CoffeeSnobs.... [smiley=thumbsup.gif]
If possible, can you grab a photo of the grinder in question or the details from its nameplate? This will help us to help you much better

First time grinder - Mocopan
Gday all, Im looking for a bit of advice, I am new to this game and after reading through a few threads it seems like one of the most important pieces of equipment is a decent grinder. I have found an ex-commercial grinder which i am told is a Mocopan?? Checking on the web they seem to be distributors not manufactures, the brand they distribute is ECM???
Im told this grinder will go up for grabs for around $400 - initially id have LOL but im considering it!! What does anyone think - a good deal or not?
What should i be checking for seeing as it is a second-hand machine?
By the way, this will just be for domestic use.........
Thanks in advanceTags: None
