    Mazzer Robur E Stress Test

So ... some of us are pretty well informed that Mazzer makes tough grinders. Let’s see how The-Robur-That-Fell-Off-A-Vehicle-At-100KPH-And-Scraped-Down-The-Highway fared. The hopper did not survive; unless surviving in hundreds of pieces counts.

    Robur ? or maybe a Major...Spezza.
Or am I wrongly assuming the flat burrs belong to the sadly scarred behemouth

It’s a Robur. Those are my old Macap MXDZ cutters. The 4kW 2 pole Synesso element wanted to be in the image too. And an OEM LM 3 group steam boiler element is hiding in there as well. Needs a descale and resistance test.

Fantastically robust and for some inexplicable reason recently unfashionable grinders.

I'm sure it'll still work if you patch it up

I’ve been surprised by some new roasters that have thrown out their angular boxes, gone back to Mazzer and are happy and killing it - not to mention saving money.

I wouldn't like to hit that if it was laying in middle of highway

They were soooo lucky it was around 2:00AM on the M7 in Brisbane. It tumbled and then slid to the middle median wall.

Stripped down Robur. Planetary gears. Rotor and stator seem ok. Passed AS/NZS 3760:2010 too.

Is the gearbox lubricated with smooth peanut butter?

Road Warrior - just replaced the main board. Everything else was salvaged (except the hopper which exploded on the road). Getting some titanium nitride cutters for it. One tough grinder.

Nice job - still got loads of character

Goes to prove that you cant kill these things no matter how hard you try - some of the new entrants on the market could learn a thing or two about robust design!

                        Cheers

That's totally impressive! How many grinders could survive that sort of abuse and still be (mostly) usable? The natural sand blasted finish looks great too- nice result.

100%. Had a play with a Robur S- great grinder though despite plenty of fiddling, we couldn't get it consistent to much better than about 0.5-1g of what we wanted.

Just bought a Kony-S and it's the conical sweet spot for mine. Brilliant grinder and the S interface and associated upgrades are terrific. I am seeing a rebirth for Mazzer as the new interface permeates down into the less expensive models. If they can improve the performance of the Mini-E so that it's not 1/2 the speed of the competitor bunch, it will be time to look seriously at the brand again.

Also played with a Compak E10 this week. 4 years of home use probably 200kg max. No screws or nails and the gearbox is shagged. Compak's response: "Yeah. Sorry to hear that".

You would never see that with Mazzer....
