Anything that falls off the back of a vehicle moving 100 KPH down the freeway and fires right up (alas, the hopper exploded into a bajillion pieces and the flex cord got a severe case of road rash) is okay in my book ??

I wont bother changing...these things just work and last for ever....
I’ve several colleagues who have thrown out their ... other commercial grinders and gone back to Robur E with SSP cutters. And love them.

A note on the Robur: It’s in a 40kg a week place and they love it ??☕️

Is the gearbox lubricated with smooth peanut butter?

Just bought a Kony-S and it's the conical sweet spot for mine. Brilliant grinder and the S interface and associated upgrades are terrific. I am seeing a rebirth for Mazzer as the new interface permeates down into the less expensive models. If they can improve the performance of the Mini-E so that it's not 1/2 the speed of the competitor bunch, it will be time to look seriously at the brand again.

Also played with a Compak E10 this week. 4 years of home use probably 200kg max. No screws or nails and the gearbox is shagged. Compak's response: "Yeah. Sorry to hear that".

You would never see that with Mazzer....
It’s good to see someone enthusiastic about Mazzer conical grinders as I was starting to think everybody else had moved on - except me!
The new S models provide a nice interface and better access for cleaning - but the robust platform is much the same.
I think the motor has been beefed up slightly and the appearance modernised. I am sure it will bring pleasure for many years and it will see quite a few ‘in vogue” grinders to the tip.

It would have been nice however if Mazzer had provided an improved fine adjustment for the collar along the lines adopted by Ceado on the new S models.......
But Mazzer get most things right!

There seems to be an almost anal pre-occupation with grind retention at present and as a consequence Mazzer grinders are currently unfashionable.

I own the older Kony and I have not found the small amount of grind retention degrades the coffee.
I think the quality of the beans, barista skill Level and About 10 other factors have a bigger impact on what lands in the cup.

That's totally impressive! How many grinders could survive that sort of abuse and still be (mostly) usable? The natural sand blasted finish looks great too- nice result.

Nice job - still got loads of character

Goes to prove that you cant kill these things no matter how hard you try - some of the new entrants on the market could learn a thing or two about robust design!

    Cheers

Road Warrior - just replaced the main board. Everything else was salvaged (except the hopper which exploded on the road). Getting some titanium nitride cutters for it. One tough grinder.

Stripped down Robur. Planetary gears. Rotor and stator seem ok. Passed AS/NZS 3760:2010 too.
