Best grinder for a La Pavoni

Since my post my 3 year old Sette 270Wi has had an internal hernia so have pulled out of service. It started to vibrate and make an awful noise as though the burrs were touching. As cost of repair may have been higher than machine worth I purchased a Mahlkoenig Vario to try something different. took about 4-5 shots to get it right although I need to refine times for 16 and 18 gram output - I sure became lazy with the Sette weighing for me. One of the "snobs" members (Tampit) has several Varios and offers good advice on their use and reliability. Good luck with whatever you end up going with.

I am just using my Porlex Mini. Feeling a bit stingy to buy a grinder right now. Works really well.

The problem with the Baratza mob is if you're 1 year and 1 day into the ownership period and it goes pop, warranty is turned off. It was a turn off for me.

The Mazzers are slightly out of fashion at the moment for some inexplicable reason.
I picked a very lightly used unit up cheaply and have been extremely impressed with the quality of grind.
I single dose mine with little fuss.
Added to the quality in the cup the things are over engineered and will last forever.
Big tick from me.
Cheers

I'm starting to lean towards a Mazzer Mini E with timed dosing. My thinking is that some fine tuning would be required bean batch to bean batch, though. The Baratza 270wi would certainly be very convenient. Mazzer's seem to be one of the gold standard grinders.

Thanks Gordons. Sounds like it might just be a slightly higher lemon rate but that is to be expected as soon as the electronics become more sophisticated, at that price point (or any). I guess I just need to determine how important gravimetric grinding is for a La Pavoni. Probably not much more than any other machine - I think a particular video I watched just convinced me of that. The 270wi is still a very cool machine though.

I have owned a Sette 270w, upgraded to 270wi under warranty, for 3 years. It had an initial problem promptly fixed under warranty, apart from that it has performed well. I grind 50-150g per day. The only thing I could, if I wanted to, complain would be it is noisy. It grinds fairly quickly so noise doesn't worry me. It's also easy to clean. It grinds accurately directly into portafilter. I did buy the attachment so that it didn't splatter as much when grinding into portafilter. So far it's been a happy experience. My beast is an Expobar Minore IV

Sorry, I wasn't specific. This is a La Pavoni lever machine.

Best grinder for a La Pavoni
I'm currently considering a Baratza Sette 270wi because it seems that grind by weight, direct to portafilter works well in combination with the La Pavoni.
That said, I have a suspicion that this Baratza is somewhat unreliable.
Would a properly set up/tuned grind by time or manual machine with scales do a better job for me in the sense that it would be more reliable, sans the grind by weight direct to portafilter?
I know there are some more expensive $1500 gravimetric, direct to portafilter grinders but unsure whether I really need to spend the money?
