Mine is of a similar age.

Id only add that along with new burrs, that you should replace the bearings.

It takes a little extra time, but if youre going to pull it down and give it a proper clean youll be 90% of the way there.

New bearings were $7 each for NTN brand 6202LLU/2AS. These have a rubber seal on the face of the bearing, which should keep some of the coffee out.

Along with that youll need a bearing puller $20 from Supercheap, and a socket and washer or drift of some kind to knock them back in with. The original bearings were a German brand, #6202.

Or find a friendly mechanic with a press and a puller and get them to do it for you.

Its worth doing if just for the noise reduction.

    Cheers
    Simon

    Fairtrade....

Yep, at $100 you have a bargain.... even if a 95 model....

Put new burrs in it, give it a clean out and it will be just like a new one..... and last you forever!!!!!

Mate - I would be far from complaining in getting a Junior in working order for $100. Spend the dough on new burrs, give it a full clean and never look back.

    Cheers

I said yes to the seller but its still in use for another week. To look at, it looked "used" & I was disappointed to find that its a 95 model, he told me only 4-5 yrs old. I tried it out, it definitely works, but i dont really know if the burrs (im assuming it has burrs??) will need replacing. I read a post that said if there is a lot of fine powdery stuff amongst the grinds then burrs should be replaced....is this correct? They will set me back $140? I had a look on coffeeparts but dont know which burrs fit the 95 cimbali jnr model.

In all, I suppose i shouldnt complain for .....$100

    Fairtrade,

Cimbali Jnr grinders are built like tanks..... there is little to go wrong with one. If the burrs rotate then the motor is fine.... the rest is cosmetic (it will probably need a damn good clean.... especially around the burr area and the doser (dismantle and clean both as there will no doubt be lots of stale grinds about!!!)

You will probably have to put a new set of burrs in it (readily available and not expensive).... and then it will last forever in a domestic situation.

They are a great grinder..... good luck!

Can anyone tell me what to look for in a la cimbali junior grinder (second hand - 4 to 5 yrs old - ex cafe) without me pulling it apart? Ill be having a look at it first thing in the morning.

Do they have any problems in general?
