I have a near new Niche. I've gone to clean it for the first time & the 10mm bolt in the top won't undo, the whole grinding mechanism moves. I've gone back & watched lots of Youtube videos, they all show the bolt only finger tight, even though a socket is supplied. I'm reluctant to jam something down into the burrs to jam it while I try to undo the bolt. What is it I don't understand here? I've tried to go to the Niche UK website to view the FAQ's but the site seems to be down.

The thin end of a wooden spoon (used carefully) should be sufficient. If that is too thick the end of wooden paint brush could substitute.

The same thing happened to me the other week. I managed to get it off by sticking my finger in the NFC disk's hole and stopping everything from moving while I unscrewed the bolt.

I'm guessing you don't have a NFC disk on your machine otherwise you would have tried this. I would recommend getting one, not just for the benefit of less popcorning but also to prevent you from needing to stick something into the burrs and potentially damaging them when cleaning your Niche in the future.

Thanks for the suggestions. I do have the NFC disk, but the screw was still too tight. Because of the disc, I was limited in the size of a stick or similar I could use.
I went & watched the YouTubes again & think I know where I was misled. Some of the videos show the assy that funnels the beans downwards being taken out first, which is what I did. I found that putting that assy back & tightening it up clamped the rotating of the burr assy & allowed me to undo the screw.
Another lesson learnt, thanks for your help...Peter

Sometimes I need to jerk the nut driver a bit to get it started, or to nip up fully. You only need to crack it and can then undo it once handed.

Chopstick in the hole worked for me!

I apply opposing force with my finger against the nfc disk while I use the socket driver. Not had an issue with this approach.

Different issue but related to cleaning
I tried to do a proper clean for the first time since getting it (early April). I’ve gotten all the way to the outer burr set. It I cannot remove the black piece that sits on top of the inner burr easily. I managed to get it off with a bit of leverage from main bolt that holds the NFC disk down but then the inner burr just sits there and that thin silver thing sits on top of it. I cannot get the inner burr off either. I’ve cleaned as much as I can with a brush and some
paper towel but cannot get the inner burr or the lowest part, the rotating blade, out to clean and therefore cannot fully clean the entire chamber.

                any suggestions??

So you can't remove the upper burr? It is just sitting there on springs, not held in by anything but gravity. It's tricky to grip but once you get the knack it's pretty quick. You need to use the pointer and middle finger on each hand, and place then on the inside of the burr and pull outwards. When you pull outwards with both hands at the same time, the tension from the opposing forces will enable you to grip the upper burr and lift it up. Once that is out the black ring and key on the lower burr just lift out. The key may stay behind with the burr the first time or two, just push it into the black ring again. The inner burr just slides up off the shaft. The lower aluminium sweeper piece just slides up too.

No my issue is the black ring and key and lower burr don’t budge. I can eventually wiggle the black ring off but the lower burr will not come off easily (or at all)
