Ive got a rocky with a doser - how can i get a consistent quantity of coffee for my shots - i dont have a scale, and that seems too fiddly anyway. My current practice is 2 scoops of beans for a single and 3 scoops for a double - I grind and use - I dont store beans or ground coffee in Rocky

Re: How do you get a consistent amount out of a ro
I would start with making the amount of coffee you put into the porta filter the area that is consistent including the tamping so as to always have the coffee at the exact same level when it is tamped down, from this you will then guage the amount of beans to put into your grinder. If you tamper has guide levels on it then this is another way but i generally fill my portafilter to the top then bang on the bench to settler, fill to the top and scrape flat then tamp.
Weighing the dose was a good way for me to get some consistency in my dosing and i am now generally within 1 - 2 grams everytime. I dont weigh the dose every time but at the start like i said it helped to give me a guide to get consistent.

Try loading your basket with beans and levelling with the top of the basket.
Grind the beans and fit all the grinds into the basket and tamping.
This works for my MDF and Macap grinders and on a Sunbeam 6910 and my Expobar Leva.
(Both grinders leave little to no grinds behind.)

Youll be suprised as to how accurate it can be once you get used to it.Originally posted by argon link=1215316351/0#4 date=1215345441thanks everyone - Ill try a few of the ideas - i quite like thundergods basket idea
The other day I tried weighing the grinds to find the right weight for my basket that gave a great shot.
After a few trials and errors I found the ideal weight and it turned out that the amount of beans was exactly how much Id been measuring with the palm over the basket method.
