You make an interesting point. I have noticed that if you overdose it slows down the pour. I wonder if you also get a bit more flavour especially with Decaf beans. Will try it.

Even a Kony (from which the burrs originate) is 30 seconds on/30 seconds off. It's a far heavier duty grinder.

Isn't there a Duty Cycle stated in the manufacturer's spec's?

I put about half a kilo through as quick as it would go. The body felt slightly warm afterwards, so I left it a while and didn't do that again. I felt consistency improved noticeably at about 2kg and then again less so at 5kg.

What I do nowadays when switching is to leave the grind setting unchanged but adjust the decaf dose. For example, for my normal beans dose at 15grams, I dose 18grams of decaf. The pour time is identical.

Oh, and another vote for no seasoning necessary.

Can also vouch - no need for seasoning from my experience. Great results out of the box - I don't think I even needed to move the dial!

I didn't bother. I just kept enjoying my normal beans and as usual when l bought a new bag, l dialled it in. So any necessary adjustment to grind size happened as a matter of course. Saves a lot of beans! Enjoy you new NZ and congrats.

    Ted2013 Thanks for your input.

You make a good point about the difficulty of feeding so much in given that the lid needs to be closed to operate. In researching, I'd read that static seemed to be a real problem with newer grinders, but it quickly diminished after 1-2kg of coffee beans going through.

Guess I'll wait and see how bad the static is before embarking on wasting supermarket beans.

monkeybean you would have to feed them through slowly as the bean chamber is designed for single dosing and only holds about 30 gms max. Also the dosing cup you put underneath it does not hold that much. Not sure you really have to season the burrs. I did not bother when I got mine and it worked great one I got the grind right. I find it pretty precise and have to gradually adjust the gind a little finer as the beans age.

We switch from caf to decaf at about 3 PM and the only problem I have found is remembering to adjust the grid when I use decaf.

    Niche Zero - Burr seasoning

Luckily scored a Niche Zero in the April arrival batch. Had to work from it though, 2AM wake-up and persevered until 2.30AM as the site caught up to the volume of users.

Anyway I've read much about seasoning the burrs. Was wondering if the Niche can handle having a KG or two of the supermarket variety dark roasts beans being run through it at once to get a baseline seasoning on it. Have any NZ owners done this, and if so, how did your machine hold up?
Working...
