Thanks for this.Originally posted by prh View Postmartyk I made a very simple mod using a PVC coupling to form a chute (Bunnings), a PVC end cap to stop pop-corning, and an automotive CV joint boot as bellows. The chute holds up to about 20g of beans. You need to notch out a section so the pvc coupling drops into the receptacle on the grinder.
1) set the grinder set for 25 seconds.
2) weigh beans and dump in the chute. I cut off the top of a large drink bottle for a funnel
3) put the cap on top.
4) grind into a dosing cup
5) when the grinds top flowing, keep the grinder running
6) quickly take of the cap and place the rubber boot on top over the chute
7) pump the boot down a few times and more grinds will flow.
If I get time tomorrow, I'll put up a couple of pics.
Pics would be great if you get a chance?

There are a few single dose hopper mod ideas on youtube for the Eureka Mignon series. This one is cheap, easy to make (and for some reason I find somewhat amusing):
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fRd11MuGLjk
I'm using my Specialita to "sort of" single dose at the moment. Because I've only got one coffee (Aldi!) and one dose (8g) on the go for now, I just keep my "one day-supply" of beans in a small airtight box ("Airscape"), so I'm not opening up the main airtight box (a larger "Airscape") with the bulk of the beans in it too frequently, and just add enough each grind for my dialled-in timed dose from the smaller box. So although there's always a few beans still in the hopper from the last grind, the beans never sit in the hopper long.
I know that's not "true" single dosing where you weigh the beans each grind, like with the Niche, but to tell you the truth, I'm not really interested in that -- it looks to me like a PITA that would get old quickly once the novelty wears off. And the timed dosing on the Specialita I'm finding to be very accurate and repeatable between doses. So that's my compromise.
But then again, as I keep reminding people people, I'm not a _really_ a snob. (I keep expecting my membership here to be revoked at any moment.) ;-)Last edited by LatteLarry; 1 April 2021, 03:32 PM.

Bernard, thanks for the helpful advice and for actually answering my question.
To the others thanks for your opinions and advice to purchase an expensive single dose grinder...
I purchased the Specialita as an all rounder as it was in my price range (under $1000) and from what I had researched was very good for the money and could be used for single dose applications. I am not set on single dosing but that is what I'm doing at this current point in time. In the future I may switch back to filling the standard hopper?! As I would like that option I went with the Specialita.
Moderators please close this thread as I will find my info somewhere else...

agree, if you single dose, get a grinder for said purpose.
I tried it once and it just wasnt for me, make too many coffees at a single time to be bothered, so looking to always speed up my workflow.
I am actually considering grabbing the new mahlkonig e65s gbw which grinds to weight, and from all reports is very accurate...this will speed up my workflow even further and another excuse to purchase another new toy

If the goal is single dosing, why not invest in a single dosing grinder like the Ceado E5SD (or go all out with the E37SD)? Single dosing design features go beyond a bellows for zero retention. The burrs have an anti oxidant coating so that water spray can be used on the beans prior to grinding (to reduce static). The grinder also comes with a grinds cup and portafilter grinds catcha so that every single particle ends up in the filter basket. We've been testing one in the Jetblack kitchenette now for a few months and I'm sold on this single dosing business. I have to admit I went in thinking it was going to be a lot more work for little return
. But if you don't mind the extra couple of steps the advantages stack up and I'm sold.

I'm perplexed as to why people pay extra to purchase a timer grinder when the timer won't be used as the intention is single dosing. Why not just buy the Mignon Manuale?

Be suspicious with any option that pushes air in. I don't know about the Specialita but the on the Eureka Atom a push pump ends up coating everything inside with coffee dust.

I have the Mignon XL, the Specialita new big brother, and I'm also looking at single dose options. I haven't opened it yet but I highly suspect that Specialita/XL are also not air tight.

Specialita single dose hopper options?
Hey,
Looking for an affordable single dose hopper and maybe bellows option for my Specialita? I have seen a few 3D printed options from overseas but the cost adds up with exchange rates and postage....
Anyone made something themselves or know of a local made option?
Cheers Marty
