  • Dip dks-65

    Hi all,

I'm a long time coffee fiend who is less than a year into the journey of coffee at home. Prior to lockdowns last year, I didn't do any form of coffee at home because it was never going to match what I was used to enjoying.
Lockdown forced my hand and I dived into a Breville Dual Boiler and Smart Grinder Pro with little research, since then the bug has bitten hard and I'm thoroughly enjoying it.

After borrowing a friends Eureka Specialita for a couple of weeks, It's very clear I need to upgrade the Smart Grinder Pro.
I've been doing plenty of research and I had pretty much settled on getting a Specialita until I upgrade the Dual Boiler sometime next year when I'd also look at a bigger burr grinder too (Helios 65 etc).

Enter the 65mm DIP DKS-65, which I am get for below retail (similar price to the Specialita) and also now the Mignon XL (which I've read the thread here and elsewhere, and youtube).

I'm hoping for some real world opinions on the DKS-65 grinder from anyone that's used/lived with one? grind quality, retention, speed, noise?
I understand the Specialita and XL are home based grinders whereas the DKS-65 appears to be aimed for commercial usage.

There's only one result when I search here, and google gives me one reasonably favorable review from a UK forum from years ago but the design has changed a little since then and pretty much nothing else. Nothing on youtube either.
I suspect the lack of information available probably means I should steer clear, but I'm partial to how it looks and the specs seem pretty favorable, plus it's stocked by forums sponsors so hopefully it couldn't be that bad?

    Usage:
Exclusively grinding for espresso, almost always milk drinks.
2-3 double shots per day on average, a few more when entertaining.
Not interested in single dosing. Strong preference for timed grinding.

    Thanks CS'ers.
