They're probably pretty similar if the 480 is a reasonably well aligned one (they're hit and miss). As you've discovered the steps on the built in one are quite large and you'll have to fine tune by adjusting your dose. You might have better luck with the 480's smaller steps.

At the end of the day though you have two working grinders. No reason you can't try both and see which you like better.

When you are down to about 1 on the side wheel. You can adjust the upper burr down by one unit and should then need to increase the side wheel, hope that makes sense.

    EM0480 vs Barista Express Grinder

Just got a new barista express to replace my failing EM6910. Perhaps not an 'upgrade' but I'm still keen to get best I can from what I have. I've got an EM0480 grinder that works well - just wondering how the built in grinder in the Breville compares to the Sunbeam? They still sell the EM0480 so I'm assuming that it's a pretty solid value for money grinder.

Early days with the new machine, and I've managed to get the grind for my current beans....close...?! I do find there's quite a large interval between each setting, and I can't find any definitive explanation of when and how the upper burrs should be adjusted. Anyway, would be interested to hear your thoughts on whether I should hold on to the EM0480 or sell it with the 6910.
    cheers!
Working...
