Yep, will be running reliably for many, many years. Only needs the application of some simple maintenance every few months to keep it clean inside and out...

I had a Sette 270, very quick, noisy as hell. It was a pretty good single dose grinder, until the motor died. It only lasted about 6 months. It's a smart design, but a bit cheaply made. The new ones might be better but I wouldn't risk it.

Looking at a sponsor website, looks like $79 for the burrs and about $20 or $30 for the capacitor? That's not too bad. Apart from that, should run for a long time?

Just budget for a set of burrs for the M4D and maybe a capacitor if they haven't been replaced. The burr replacement can be done by anyone, the capacitor is not difficult but you need to be careful (and aware of what capacitors are).

I would go the M4D any day over the Sette - though I've noticed one annoying thing. The feed from the hopper/collar into the burr chamber is quite narrow and some large beans i.e. India Monsoon Malabar or the current Nicaragua Mombacho size get stuck. they eventually get through, but this can totally throw out the timed dosing.

The M4D will probably still be around in another 10 years. Doubt that the Sette will.

I found a thread where M4D owners side-graded (?) to the Sette, and enjoyed it. I'm thinking both are very good. I wonder which would last longer... Sette has some durability concerns, but the M4D already has some mileage...

New Sette 270 or 10 year old M4D?
Hi guys, seeking advice on a new Sette 270 vs 10 year old M4D?
Assume same price. For flat whites and long blacks.
Also Bezzera Gea 10 year old vs new BZ10. Assume BZ10 is a few hundred buckeroonies more.
Any advice appreciated!
