Just an update. I pulled it apart - an incredibly simple setup once in!
As Dimal suggested, it was quite gunked up with stale grinds. I suspect whoever I bought it off used it for a coarse grind, as there's a little grub screw stopper that I have a feeling may also have been stopping it from turning far enough towards the finer settings.
Anyway, gave it a really good clean up, put it back together, and was able to pull a couple of good shots after a few attempts and fine tuning.
Not a bad, basic little grinder!
Thanks all!

I did think straight after posting this, I should really strip the little bugger down for a good clean and inspection!
Thanks for the replies... Will pull it apart for a better look and clean up.

I'd say that the grinder needs to be stripped down and given a really good clean.
Sounds to me like there will be detritus gumming up the thread for the static burr holder and this will be preventing you from adjusting it any finer. Always a good idea to strip down used grinders for a good clean and inspection...

Should be 100% OK for espresso. Either burrs are worn or perhaps they need aligning. Anyone?

Isomac Professionale suitable for espresso?
Hey all,
I picked up a second hand Isomac Professionale a while back on a whim, but when trialing it with my home machine, the grind couldn't seem to get fine enough for espresso. It has the stepped adjustments, and when I tried to turn it towards the finer end of the scale, I could feel strong resistance, and assumed this might have been the burrs getting pretty close. But even then, after making it as fine as the adjustment collar would allow without "pushing the issue", it was still too coarse.
I'm thinking either this grinder isn't really capable of fine enough grind for espresso, OR it just needs a fresh set of burrs (although not sure it'd be worthwhile sinking the $!)
I may end up keeping it as a spare for other brew methods, but was curious as to people's experience with this grinder, and whether it should be capable of a finer grind?
Cheers,
Damo
