"I mostly single dose as retention is low enough that a quick purge creates negligible waste" The Baratza Single Dose Hopper is a great tool to help with single dosing and also reduces the profile of the Vario even more, making it a very compact unit.

What you could do is tell your wife you are considering a new hobby which requires purchases involving eye-watering sums that would make coffee gear outlays look miserly in comparison. Vintage car restoration?

I’m about 3 years into being a Mahlkonig Vario Home owner and couldn’t be happier. It does everything I need it to without issue and it needs nothing except for the usual cleaning routine. I mostly single dose as retention is low enough that a quick purge creates negligible waste (which I usually keep anyway). Like you FNQ I don’t have anything more exciting than that to say. But like you I’m also more than happy.

I stopped looking at almost all new equipment threads a few years ago and found that my "upgraditis" went into remission almost immediately and I have not had a recurrence since

I call it stimulation of the economy. In these times of minimal interest rates, your money isn't doing well sitting in the bank. In fact, given inflation, it's possibly going backwards. Better off having it move around the economy and helping others. Spend up and feel good about it .

I had one of these for several years. Very reliable and fuss free. Also quite fast for its size. Great machine.

    "No fuss and no fanfare"
But most importantly, lays the foundation for a great espresso. What more could you want?
    Happy days

started a topic My grinder 18 months on.

    My grinder 18 months on.

I have a Profitec Pro T 64 grinder , purchased from Jetblack Espresso approximately 18 months ago.

My attention on these pages is often drawn by the notions of mods/ upgrades / hacks and workarounds for relatively new machines ( both espresso machines and grinders).

Sadly this thread , is not a continuation on this theme.

The grinder today is stock standard, and my forays into dabbling have been limited to adjusting timing of the grind buttons... no I lied, sorry , I think i also had to drop the portafilter holder position down for a brief period when i was playing with a funnel.( loosen two screws and nudge lower in the slot )

I did have the grind adjustment worm drive knob loosen a screw and semi jamb in one direction, but there was was a simple and quick remedy.... ( after receiving some long weekend after sales service by Charlie from Jetblack)

I really like the machine for my use..... primarily espresso... and no frequent major adjustment to the grind settings ( say from pourover to espresso). I do not single dose, although on the couple of occasions i weighed doses in and out, i found the retention ( or possibly stale thruput) was acceptable, but not its true strength area.

The burr set has worked well. I struggled to dial in one of Andy's espresso WOW blends early in the picture,, but that has not been a recurring theme. ( operator error )

The machine has had 50 - 60 kgs put through it, and is fairly easy to maintain. It does have a groove in the burr chamber that needs a mechanical assisted cleaning strategy from time to time( aka toothpick)

So there you go. A machine that has no fuss and fanfare, isnt flavour of this month or last, doesn't come with all the latest fandangos but just does a good job and suits my purpose.....

    I think I bought a camry....

Please feel free to add your less fancied fit for purpose machines stories as well.
Working...
