Hi, just got one of these and wondered if you bothered to work out at what point the burrs touch so you can see how many divisions from the zero point your grinds are, or not. Cheers.

This reviewer did an awesome job covering a lot of the issues I found with mine (and a couple more).

One thing I'd like to add, I've been able to get a consistent 0.1g retention by turning the grinder back on for a second after turning it off when the grind completes. The sudden change in momentum seems to knock a good amount of coffee out of the chamber.

It's going well. Have a bit of noise when running empty that I can't get rid of, which was initially the lower burr carrier touching the upper burr, but I fixed that. Now I suspect some grinds are getting stuck. It's a minor thing but it got me second guessing myself.

The retention is definitely worse than my old Breville Smart Grinder + bellows, but conical grinders are better in that regard in general. I think 0.5g retention is about the worst I've had, but it's definitely not 'zero'. After about 250g of beans the chamber was packed with grinds (medium/dark roast, not visibly oily) so I suspect the bellows can't knock it out. Good news is, bellows doesn't make a mess of inside the grinder at all, it's pretty well sealed off.

All in all, this feels like a nicer looking XL with bellows and no digital features. Not a bad thing at the right price. Major thing is that QC needs to step up to the plate (see previous post).

So initial impressions. The quality control of the hopper isn't great. Very annoyed to see the metal tab that blocks the bean entry very rough and sharp, as if they forgot to deburr it. As a consequence it was grinding away the plastic hopper when used. I fixed it with sandpaper but that's pretty poor effort. I don't have another Mignon to compare but the burr chamber itself seems to have loose tolerances. Doing the marker test I felt some resistance rotating the lower burr, but no marker was removed. Turns out the upper burr edge was rubbing against the lower burr carrier. Easily fixed but expected more for a $1300 grinder. Glad I imported it cheaper.

As far as aesthetics, I think it looks great. Basically a modern interpretation of the Niche's retro styling.

Will judge the coffee aspect after some use.

100% same here. I kinda ordered a niche already but, but still nice to hear opinions on the oro in comparison

Oh awesome! Let us know how it goes, retention wise etc. and whether the dialing knob functions the same as all of the other eurekas

The grinder just arrived! Looks exactly as it does in the press photos as far as I can tell. Even the silly portafilter holder slot and (non-functional) button are there.

I have seen the date is pushed back. What have you paid in total ordering form the EU? and is the tax included for you? I've seen some say tax excluded and some say tax included

Looks like December is the new release date 😬

I also preordered from Europe. Sounds like some manufacturing issue popped up.

Exchange rates and freight can also add up, though it seems a bit better now. Theoretically you should be paying 10% GST when it arrives here, but that is still hit and miss. Some overseas sites (including USA) will now add 10%GST to your order and are supposed to collect this and forward to the ATO. Whether they do send this to our ATO or just pocket it, is still to be determined.

Airfreight is becoming reliable again, must be the increase in flights. Some are permitted to fly.....
I use transfer wise which is my overseas bank account, the fees changing AUD to Euro or whatever currency is significantly lower than those charged by PayPal. I was looking at roughly $920 aud when converted, and then obviously getting hit with the tax once it comes in
