Thanks Ninja. Was considering starting a new post but that clears that up nicely.

Flat burrs are almost universally considered better for clarity on lighter roasts, and especially with fruit sweet flavours.

Conical burrs will be easier to dial in because they will never be quite right, so there is a wider range of "ok" that's the best it will get.

I was looking at them on ebay as well. Was doing lots of reading and came across burrs affecting flavor. I almost always buy SO Ethiopian Yirgicheffe which is a lighter roast. I like the fruity sweet flavors and have read that conical burrs may be better taste wise and be easier to dial in.

So more reading trying to get the facts. Want to get a bang for the buck grinder. Want to keep this one for a good long while. Will go second hand and even bigger a bit just need to figure out which way to go amd what the best options are.

I can vouch for the Eureka Mignon Specialita. Bought it last week and received it friday. I bought it from ****** on ebay for $799 with a code to drop it to $749. Unfortunately it looks like that deal has ended and its back to $869 or so, although there are other sellers with them for $799.

It ticks all your boxes from what you have mentioned. Retention is apparently less than 1g. Its super quiet and built solid. Only downside is lack of tray under the portafilter holder but its not overly messy.

Seems is a couple hundred more. 800 is as far as I can go. Also heaps bigger. Wouldn't have the room for it. Need to stay in the same size bracket. If I take any more bench the wife will lose it.

At that price range the Specialita is hard to beat, unless you want to look at something like a DF64 and single dosing it.

    Looking to Upgrade Grinder

Have a Mahlkonig Vario at the moment. It goes well but want something faster and stepless. Have accidentally hit the slide adjustments a few times now in my limited space which is also super annoying.

I usually make between 2-3 double espressos at a time once a day and only dose the hopper enough for the coffees and perge. Would prefer flat burr, low static, low retention. Have been looking at the Eureka mignon specialita but would like other options for comparison.

    Looking around 800 price range.

    Thanks Ed
