  • Grinder Advice - Decent DE1PRO

Just pulled the trigger on an upgrade to DE1PRO.

I've been using a Breville dual boiler for 7 years with the Breville 820 grinder.

    I make 1-2 espressos 7 days a week.

After some research I'm keen for the Niche Zero.

My question is - given the Decent will arrive a couple of months before the NZ, what is the best option? ( I can't see myself leaving the DePRO in the box for 2 months. )

I presume the Breville can't grind fine enough to make do for a couple of months?

I could buy a hand grinder like 1zspresso jxpro for $250 until the NZ arrives and then have it on hand for travel/workplace use

I could but the NZ from an Australian site for $1799 to ship straight away.

    Any opinions appreciated

    Firstly a big congrats!

The Breville will certainly grind fine enough but the grind size won't be as uniform as the NZ. I've owned both and still have the breville for using to grind freshly roasted beans for color analysis. They are a very good grinder for the money.

If it were me, I would definitey use the Breville until the NZ arrives, it will be good enough. Two months will come and go like a flash. Heck, I ordered my last grinder in June and it will probably be here late December if I'm lucky.

I certainly would not be paying 1800 for a NZ, it's just too much relative to other options, great grinder though it is. Buying a 1zspresso is a pretty good option if you are going to use it for travel or as a backup grinder.

I’ve got a DE1Pro and NZ. Agree the breville will get you by for a few months but NZ is better long term.

when you get on Basecamp find the AU coffee of the month thread (COTM). It’s where most of us Aussie owners hang out.

1Zpresso JX-Pro, IMO, is significantly better than Breville grinder, its grind performance close to NZ.

I second this, infact, the quality in the cup between the JX and Niche is scary... If I weren't lazy I might have just used the hand grinder...

My current setup is Niche/H1 for Espresso and JX for pour over. Live has never been better.

I would wait for the niche, not worth the $800 markup, as Tom mentioned there are better options at this price point if you’re willing to spend that. But the niche will easily be comparable to some higher end machines, with marginal differences, and also the flat vs conical flavour profile people tend to have. I am waiting on my niche Jan 2022 eta, but own a synchronika
