Ahh, I found the issue. Operator Error.
When I was putting the ring cap back on, I was still holding the button at the back in a bit when turning it. I thought I needed to do that until it got round to the measurement part. What this must have done is not have the cap engage with the thread and screw down as far as it should have. It does not feel any different when you do it wrong, except the grind is crap.
So looks like we are all good and the plunger has gone back in the cupboard.

Had a similar issue with a different brand. Turned out the issue was due to a missing bolt that kept the burrs close to each other when putting things back together. Having said that you may wish to see this as an opportunity to upgrade because I have had one of those grinders and noticed a dramatic difference in the fullness of flavour in my espresso after it died and I upgraded. Just saying....

Should have left it alone. EM480 question

I decided to clean the Grinder. A Sunbeam 480 that has been working well. I removed the top cap, cleaned the burr holder. Put the cap back on by lining up the arrows. Dropped the burr holder back in, turned until it dropped into place and then rotated the Cap back round to the grind settings. However, now when I grind, even on the finest setting, it is so course I could do better hitting a bean with a hammer. I took it apart and did it three times and I cannot for life of me work out why the grind has completely gone.
Does anyone have any ideas what I could be doing wrong? At this stage I will be dusting off the plunger for tomorrow.
    Cheers in advance.
Working...
