I am not sure how alignment contributed to that - as far as understand usually it is very minor adjustment.
I was using Specialita for a couple of years and didn't have any issues after cleaning it - I believe it is hard to assemble it incorrectly.
You can find "burrs touching" point when the grinder is unplugged by manually spinning the burr and adjusting the size.
I haven't tried to touch burrs on running Specialita but on it's bigger brother Mignon XL I am able to touch burrs while motor is running - it touches with outer "flat" surface of the burr making noise but no damage.

Specialita grind performance after cleaning
Hey,
Had my specialita for approx 18 months and has been a good grinder so far. The other day I took both burrs out to give it a good clean. After putting it back together I can't grind fine enough.... To get close I'm pretty sure the burrs are touching!
I have read about aligning the burrs and I have done so after watching few YouTube videos and wasting hours of my time without any results.
So now I'm lost...
Any other tips or do I need to try the alignment AGAIN?!
Cheers Marty
