Really compact grinders. I’ve found three, any more ideas?

I signed up a day or two ago. I also see that Niche is saying there will be another Aussie shipment in March. The Niche looks to be about twice the price of the Lagom mini - but people seem to love it. I’ll be super interested in your views once you’re using the Lagom. I think you’ll have both?

After all your very helpful comments, thanks Snobbers, my shortlist has grown a bit:
Lagom mini, 48mm burrs (current first preference)
DF64
Eureka Mignon Manuale
Eureka Mignon Classico
Niche Zero
I’d really like to hear of user experience with any of these. Things people love along with anything to particularly look out for.

I find the Varios a bit confusing to be honest. After reading and watching comparisons and reviews, the choices between the Vario+ and the Vario W+ don’t make much sense to me in terms of use and workflow. I’m also leaning towards something smaller overall - I really do have a small space.

I’m a bit hesitant about modding, having never tried it. I think that this first time around I’ll go for an off the shelf solution.

I think I’m in love. Since I first saw it (thanks for the introduction) I’ve pursued all the commentary, tests, reviews I’ve been able to find to see whether it was just infatuation based on looks (sleek, streamlined, refined) or could lead to a long-term relationship.
It’s not perfect. It wasn’t even designed for espresso drinkers like me. But the one you bought, with the 48mm burrs, will do the job and it seems it’ll do it very well for my one to two cups a day.
I love the small footprint and that it won’t be a matter of shoehorning it into my small space.
Having said all that, there’s no known date for the next batch. As it happens I am in Sydney and if your kind offer of a loan grinder still stands I’d love to take you up on it. I’d then be quite happy to wait (if it’s not too long). And keep researching other options in the meantime.

A Vario with a single dose hopper would be within your size limit.Originally posted by Femelle View PostThanks for the welcome Mono. I’ve lurked here a bit but not posted before. I missed the DF64, it’s certainly in the size range and I’ll check it out. Unfortunately both Varios are too tall LeroyC, coming in at 36 and 37cm. If only they could be squashed down just a little ….

If you plan to single dose you go for a slightly taller option and buy or 3d print single dose hopper to suit. Etsy has a few good options and then there are 3d printing online services. Would be tricky to work out overall height though.

If only you could wait an Option-O Lagom Mini with 48mm burrs is about the smallest electric grinder and around 25cm tall, 10cm deep, and 6cm wide. I ordered mine on 23 December and it's already left the factory, but they're sold out this batch with no timeline on the next batch yet. If you're in Sydney I can loan you a Smart Grinder so that your decision making process is fully caffeinated!

A Vario would work, either a Mahlkonig Vario Home (if you can find one) or one of the new Baratza Varios.

Hi and welcome, one extra you may be able to add to your list is the DF64, single dose and sponsor Alternative Brewing have it listed as on sale and at 30cm. I would suggest confirming that height figure though…

Really compact grinders. I’ve found three, any more ideas?
My old Breville grinder died and that means a chance to upgrade. My chief limitation is space, specifically height. The whole machine, including hopper, cannot be taller than 335mm. I make one to two coffees a day, more sometimes, always espresso, usually served with milk. Am planning to move towards single dosing.
i have found:
Eureka Mignon Manuale
Eureka Mignon Classico
Niche Zero
Other Eureka models (Silenzio, Specialita) are a few centimetres too tall. The Niche is essentially unavailable right now - and coffee withdrawal symptoms are setting in so I can’t wait for availability.
Which seems to give me a choice between the Manuale and the Classico. I’d be happy with one of these and am leaning towards the Classico, just because I think a few options might be useful. It’s my first foray into anything better than a standard Breville grinder so I’m not sure how my workflow will develop.
Have I missed a small grinder anywhere?
All input appreciated. Opinions welcomed.
