None of the Grinders in the OP's list of options can be bought for $200.
Going cheap on a grinder for espresso is false economy in the extreme.

Really compact grinders. I’ve found three, any more ideas?

in house they seem to rate it as one of their best grinders for espresso.Originally posted by Caffeinator View PostNot with a barge pole on Baratza. #landfill

Thankyou! I’d only ever use it for espresso and I’m toying with the idea.
for a small footprint budget grinder, I might leave this here. Baratza are releasing an espresso version of their encore. I’ve searched some US coffee sites and it looks like it will sell sub 200USD
https://baratza.com/grinder/encore-esp/
meets the OPs requirement for small footprint as well at an entry level price point.
availability might be the hard bit.

'Competitively' should be 'comparatively' if it wasn't obvious

Ever since the temporary replacement power supply arrived it has been used over the Niche since it fits my desired flavour profile better than the Niche does. (The Niche produces higher texture & lower clarity shots, the Mini produces higher clarity & lower texture competitively.) It also produces fluffier grounds and retains less than the Niche. There are a couple of workflow quirks you need to live with (slower grinding-just change your workflow a bit; needs lid on for grinding then off for palm-tap; catch cup good for pouring grinds out of but not for dosing; it's small and requires smaller hand movements). For the money the grind quality is amazing. Enjoying espresso more again since getting this grinder.Originally posted by tommy888 View PostHow is this going for you?(for espresso?)

How is this going for you?(for espresso?)Originally posted by level3ninja View PostIf only you could wait an Option-O Lagom Mini with 48mm burrs is about the smallest electric grinder and around 25cm tall, 10cm deep, and 6cm wide. I ordered mine on 23 December and it's already left the factory, but they're sold out this batch with no timeline on the next batch yet. If you're in Sydney I can loan you a Smart Grinder so that your decision making process is fully caffeinated!

I originally included a couple of Eurekas in my shortlist. Agree with you that they seem like good machines. I do like the look of the Option-Os though. There’s even a totally irresponsible part of me that lusts after the P64. More realistically, I’m waiting for level3ninja’s promised review of the mini after he’s had a good play with it.

I just got the Eureka Mignon XL, which at about 38cm is pretty compact, but a touch too tall for you. However, it is a great machine, so if that flows to the lower priced/smaller models (and from I read it does), the Eureka options seem like very good quality machines.

It’s a really interesting review. I was surprised at the taste test results against the Niche Zero. And dismayed to hear about the seemingly large power brick it uses. That came up in the comments, not his review. And the fact that the motor is actually 120w but they’ve throttled it down to 85, presumably to guard against burnout as it’s small. A lot to think about. Thanks for posting it.

Lance Hedrick released a good video on the Lagom Mini overnight including a comparison to the NZ for espresso
