I will say that I definitely noticed improvement in the cup compared to my Super Jolly, which was a step up from my K3 push. I also like the speed and simplicity. It does retain a few grinds, but I just purge a little before the first shot of a session and flick out the chute with a brush after grinding.
While grinding, I just count in my head to suit which basket I’m using, then collapse the grinds and level off.
It may not be the most accurate way, but I’m not interested in weighing before, during and after grinding. No offence to those who do, but I’d rather emulate a competent barista than a scientist.
As for being a bit of work to modify, I enjoyed the process, but only after a little research. I found some good info on the required wiring changes on the UK forums.
It seems that the current trend is smaller, single dose grinders with emphasis on low/no retention. I get that, but the Robur has 71mm conical burrs and will grind for a 20g basket in about 6 seconds. Also, it only owes me about $500 including new burrs and should last for years and years.
Hope that helps a little,
Mark
