That's entirely possible, I'll pull the thing apart and check next time I'm down at her place.

Lyrebird, I had a Atom60 and from memory mine would touch burrs before any dead spots in the adjustment mechanism. My thoughts are the same as Ninja, maybe something stripped or in the attachment to the adjusting screw. It is pretty easy, the whole mechanism lives under the adjustment knob and just an assortment of different allen bolts and philips to get there. Should be obvious once apart.
PS Check the chute is clean and also remember you may need two or three doses to clearly see an adjustment. A good clean while there seems to make everything work better.

To my mind, your description would match to a stripped thread at a particular location. Whether you can stick a few washers somewhere to move the whole grind adjustment range finer I'm not sure but I think it would be doable. It is almost certainly not the case that she made adjustments while the grinder was running.

LB Ive never touched an Atom60 so cant comment there.
And given your background here I'm certain your already prepping to do this.
So my comments are for those playing along at home......
Clean /check the grind chamber Atom60.
If all Ok, no obvious issues (burrs) etc. then.......
Go in two seperate directions, alternatively and one by one.
1/ Bring in a known good grinder with marked settings from its 'home machine' situation.
Use your beans first as a way to test the output of your S.i L.'s machine.
Then clean out the grind chamber and use her hipster beans. Compare back to back shots
and where the two alternative grind settings sit.
2/ Bring a quality / fresh / different darker roast (your beans) to the your SiL's Atom60 / machine.
Run shots as above with both the Atom60 and other grinder using the hipster beans .
Assess from there.
I do believe in keeping the dose consistent (same .0g ), at / near its maximum whilst tamped clear of the shower-screen.
FWIW I don't subscribe to the dose till it bursts. An overly common 'commercial' practice, (= chance of a fractured puck).
I'm assessing your words and that in fact it might be 'binding up' at a certain grind point setting and has reached its max efficiency.Originally posted by Lyrebird View PostThe grind adjustment is working in the sense that it goes finer in one direction and coarser in the other but when trying to adjust the grind fine enough there appears to be a point where it keeps turning but nothing happens.
Other than marking where your currently at, then clearing the inlet throat/ grind chamber. Reset True zero, mark.Originally posted by Lyrebird View PostDoes anyone know if there's a way of recalibrating the adjustment on these? I searched online but found nothing.
Return to dialing in and comparing marked posn's.
Gicleur ...partial blockage ?Originally posted by Lyrebird View Postthe E61 group on her machine doesn't appear to be working properly
Service, replace brew path seals, check cam, pushrods, valves, seals.
GL.
Interested to hear back your findings.

It is almost certainly not the case that she made adjustments while the grinder was running.
I'm not a "contact the retailer" type, I prefer to work out how to fix things.

That sounds like something is quite wrong, that shouldn't happen. I'd contact the retailer.
I assume all setting changes are being done with the grinder running?

Eureka Atom adjustment
I was at my Sister in Law's place this morning and she is struggling with her coffee setup. It looks like there are three things wrong at once, one of which is that she cannot get the grind fine enough on her Eureka Atom.
FWIW the others are that she's using light to medium hipster tragedy (TM) coffee and that the E61 group on her machine doesn't appear to be working properly. I can fix those two but I don't know enough about the grinder to be able to help.
The grind adjustment is working in the sense that it goes finer in one direction and coarser in the other but when trying to adjust the grind fine enough there appears to be a point where it keeps turning but nothing happens. Visually there's no difference in the coffee grind size once this point is passed. Unfortunately at this point she's still getting a gusher even if the PF is packed to the gunwhales and tamped with great force.
Does anyone know if there's a way of recalibrating the adjustment on these? I searched online but found nothing.Last edited by Lyrebird; 20 August 2022, 08:54 PM.
