Having second thoughts too. Price is too expensive.

DF83? Will it come to Aus

Hi All, yes - there has been a price increase. This is due to factors of certification and shipping - additionally, the AUS/NZ version of the DF83 like the DF64, will be different to international versions which increases manufacturing costs - though the final product will be a better grinder as well.
They will come standard with the quick-release dosing cup adapter (like in the DF64), DLC burrs as standard, an updated grind dial that is more accurate, with a larger range and significantly better burr alignment from the factory. These are all extras that have been incorporated on the AU/NZ stock so there is a real difference between buying locally vs overseas - apart from the obvious local support you receive as well.

Worth having a look at the excellent video from Josh at AB on the DF63. Especially at the 19:30 mark where he explains the upgrades to the AU/NZ version. This explains why the price has gone up.
Its a shame for a lot of punters that the price has gone up so much but at least there is a solid reason with the Diamond-Like-Coating burrs and the others that AB mentioned above.
Tempted to give it a whirl now they have upgraded the burrs.

Attention Mr/Mrs/Ms/They AlternativeBrewing any chance you can supply something for CS members so we can fill in this empty space on your cart page? Cos we all hate seeing gaps in forms.

Just wondering if the lack of grommet or gland where the power cable comes out of the unit will be an issue for Australian electrical certification. It looks like if the power cable got yanked it would pull directly on the terminals. Also the cable could rub against the edge of the unit and cut its insulation. Is this something that gets looked at for certification and could require rectification?

Big difference in price compared with the AU unit.
I do like the idea of having a metal doser cup and DLC coating which is great considering the price.

I have the original DF64 and while the plastic cup doesn't please the aesthetic eye as much it is very practical to see the grounds in the cup while on the portafilter. Occasionally the flip means it all gets lumped to one side and you could easily spill half of it if you don't level it a little. Can't see that on a metal dosing cup.

Update on the long-awaited DF83. The first shipment will include the V2 changes which include the plasma generator to reduce static build-up in the exit chute.
We are confident that this upgrade will enhance the performance further of the grinder and provide a better user experience.

AlternativeBrewing any update on when these are expected to land in Aus? Will there be any delays before shipping to customers?

I'm in.
AlternativeBrewing dropped the price to a very competitive $1,599. These come with the new DLC burrs which at least one reviewer rates as good as, if not identical to, the SSP High Uniformity burrs worth $390 on their own. So when you look at it like that, the price increase is justified. Plus local service and support cant be beat.
It may not be a keeper but I'll post first impressions here.

Where is the review for the burrs?

Youtube. Portakeeper channel. Look for his review of the DF64V and the DLC coated burrs.
To be fair, I'm assuming that the DF 83mm DLC burrs have the same geometry as the DF 64mm DLC. I think that's likely since they are both aimed at emulating the SSP High Uniformity burrs. Haven't had that confirmed yet though. I can do so once they all land on my bench.
