  • Femobook grinder - 1zpresso going electric

Femobook Grinder could be a new contender in the small electric grinder category. Seems to be made by 1zpresso, as its from Taiwan and the adjustment collar is similar to the J-Max / K-Max, but I could be wrong. Search for it and a dedicated website will come up.

    Small footprint.
Slick looking aesthetics somewhat similar to Weber Key but more mini in size.
    68mm conical burrs.
    Single dose with low retention.

Ticks alot of boxes and if from 1zpresso then quality should be decent. No price shown yet.

Hoon has an endearingly amateur video up for it, I don't love the sound it makes. And it has a huge separate power brick but definitely looks well built. He describes the burrs as enlarged K series. I would also love to know the origin of the name, why not stick with 1zpresso.

Now Hoon is saying correction - femobook and 1zpresso not related so I'm confused.

Sound can be very misleading on amateur video. I remember when I first saw a video of the Decent and when the pump came on it sounded like someone was using a jack hammer to drill through a double brick wall. In the flesh, it's certainly a funny old sound but not especially loud at all.

Thanks Blues1143 for the heads up on Hoons videos.

The unit is larger than I realised, thought with the adjustment collar that it was from an 1zpresso hand grinder with a size similar to the Arco, but seems to be only design inspired.
Also, apparently not made by 1zpresso, but wonder if there is some kind of connection there?
Does seem to be noisy, Hoon did a video today comparing to the Niche and commented its noisy, also has a nasty high pitch to it too.

Coffee chroniclers impressions are coming out too. Pretty cool and I appreciate the disassembly unfortunately im not after a grinder atm.

so I did a little digging after reading through the posts and watching of the videos. The company that makes Femobook is registered under the same address as 1zpresso, so even if they claiming to be a different company, there is definitely a strong connection - perhaps a spin-off to focus on electric grinders?

Looks like the grinder is up for pre-order on their website , NT$15888~ AUD$ 760 , however the shipping cost is a bit too much at NT$4500 ~ AUD$215

Comes in an assortment of (weird) color choices but no basic silver or black or white.

          some specs from the website:
Color: Champagne Gold / Pink Purple / Green / Red / Black & Red
          Size: 160*106*295mm
          Electrical specification: BDC Motor
          Capacity: 40g
          Weight: 5.6±0.2kg
          Burr size: 68mm conical burrs
          Power Supply Input: 100-240V~50/60Hz 3.5A
          Rated speed: 127±12%RPM
          Input voltage: 24V 55W

Lance Hedrick review is up: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xAZCP_4gU54

Sounds like a pretty strong contender. Looks wise not as polished as others, and agree on the weird colour choices.

At under $1k landed, consider me tempted...

Very favourable review from Lance H.

I saw that shipping cost and I’m just like wtf? Shipping is almost 1/3 of the cost of the grinder, seems too high??

also at that final price, you can get a Niche for about the same directly from their website right?

Considering the review by Lance H, if its close to Niche price then thats a good price!

Yeah I don’t doubt how good it is. But given that it’s a newish company with no proven track record , it’s hard to choose this instead of the niche when the price is about the same?

Shipping out of China / Taiwan in this case is extremely expensive unless it's done in huge bulk or subsidised by the Chinese government like all the stuff on eBay & AliExpress is.

No question that it's a disincentive to ordering. Still .... thinking ....
