My Knob is due to arrive next week (can't believe I'm writing that) and I'll be selling it directly unopened for a bit less than I paid. So keep an eye on the for sale notices, if you have an interest.

It really depends on why you want to sell your C40 and what you would from this grinder. If you're looking for something that's a bit better than the C40 for espresso then I'd say that it would definitely be worth considering. This has the same 47mm Italmill burrs as the Kinu Classic which a great for espresso. It's also got an easy to use stepless grind adjustment. At this early stage in its life I'm still finding that my Knob is creating a bit of static, especially with slightly darker roasts, which leads to a little retention. I'm minimising it by using RDT and the grinder is so easy to clean that having old coffee stuck in there isn't an issue. A big plus is that it's quite easy to use and I'm able to grind 18g for espresso in about 50 seconds, which is pretty impressive really. It's well designed and built, but a bit more utilitarian in its finishing than the likes of the Kinu and C40. I haven't gone back to trying it for filter coffee yet, but I'd say that once the burrs are seasoned it'll do a reasonable job of grinding for filter, just as the Kinu Classic does, but won't be quite as good as the C40 when it comes to clarity of lighter roasts. For that reason I'll probably consider trading this for something that's more suited to filter coffee as that's what I'll predominantly use my hand grinder for over time. You can't buy these at the moment as they're fulfilling Kickstarter pledges, but they'll be available again soon via an Indiegogo campaign. Hope that helps.

So, I bought Toms knob. Looks great. super solid, very impressed with build quality. Really intrigued with how it grinds and how well it performs.
LeroyC can you give me some guidance with settings for espresso and v60? is there a guide somewhere to get me started?

Hey TailorCoffee. There's a very basic manual on the Knob website that tells you how to adjust the grind setting, but it doesn't give any recommended ranges. I've found that espresso is about one full turn of the adjustment ring and filter coffee is at least two full turns. For reference my zero point is at about number 34 on the ring. At the moment I'm grinding a relatively light espresso roast at just less than one full turn, around the 32.5 mark. Some darker roasts I've used if for have been past that full turn between 34 and about 2. Hope that helps, sing out if you have any other questions.

Anyone else thinking they've accidentally logged into an episode of "Carry on Grinding"?

I've heard that the grinder's fan club is known as 'The Jockeys'

Used the knob today for the first time. Made a few espressos with it. Grind adjustment is very easy and rather sensitive. Went too coarse, then too tight and nailed the third.
Grinds well and easily, seems really sturdy.
Not loving the catch cup design - a bit small and messy when pulling it out of the body. Also, even though its easy to get to the burrs etc im finding it a bit of a pain to clean and some grinds getting caught between the bottom of the burr and the body.
Taste is pretty good, although definitely more bitter then the niche with the same beans. i suspect that may be extra fines in the grind?
All in all i like the grinder. Would like to see an improvement in the catch cup design.

I've found the same. Here's what I've found helps - I use RDT which I've found makes a difference as it reduces static. When I finish grinding I sit the grinder on the bench and give it a good hard tap on the top which helps everything settle nicely in the catch cup. I spin the handle back and forth a couple of times to make sure there's no beans still stuck on the burrs and to help expel all the grinds. That's a bit of faffing around, but definitely helps keep retention to a minimum with espresso grinding. You're right about that area where some grinds can get stuck between the burr and the body. I don't think there's much you can do about that, but it's not a significant amount. It's definitely a grinder that would clean out quite well with air. I made a straight espresso today using my Knob as the grinder and it was delicious. Sweet and lively, so I think it is quite capable. The only other thing I found is that today the burr adjustment collar felt a little loose so I pulled it apart and cleaned it then put it back together and it was good as gold so that's something that might need to be done once every few weeks.

Ill try some RDT tomorrow and see if it helps. Had a V60 today and was impressed with the grind and brew. Im not a pour over expert by any means, but the brew seemed as good as any other grinder i have used (jx-pro and kinu). Im getting more used to the workflow and not as bothered by the catch cup today. i guess knowing what to expect helps.
It feels super solid when grinding. kinda expected the handle to be wobbly or not secure, but it locks in well and grinds wonderfully.
very happy with it as my hand grinder!

First mod completed on the Knob Grinder. I wonder if I'm the first person in the world to mod their Knob?

That grub screw that you can see has been added to hold the handle in place when it's in the storage and travel position. I had it done properly by a friend of mine who works at an engineering workshop. They drilled through the handle and collar of the grinder then thread tapped it. It works well.

Just received my Knob grinder today in the mail. Opened the box the grinder looks good but I think I might be selling it as I bought an 1zpresso whilst waiting for it and am very happy with that grinder so I feel as though I have no need for it.

This is a great grinder, but I've decided to sell mine. The main reason is that the flavour profile is not my preference as it highlights body more than acidity. It's still a very capable grinder that is really easy to use that in my mind is better for espresso, but also very good for soft brew.
