Difference between SSP Silver Knight MP and Red Speed MP Burrs
Something I should also highlight, is that the burrs are super sharp, like a sharp knife, much quieter and at least 30% quicker than the original OEM burrs, An additional couple of benefits not often mentioned.
Thanks for your thoughts! After a day or so of researching, and finding no good reason not to just purchase the cheaper Silver Knights, that's what I'll be doing!
There's no difference in quality. I can't explain the price difference other than to say I'd buy whichever is cheaper.
According to SSP, Silver Knight has a lower friction coefficient than Red Speed, and so produces fewer fines and is better for filter, while Red Speed is better for espresso.
I used to have a set in SK for filter, did an excellent job of producing lip smacking acidity when I got it right. Can be punishing when you get it wrong. Helps to be seasoned with about 4-5kg, prior to that I found it to have an astringent finish that I couldn't get away from.

I am just trying to understand the difference between these two burrs. I get that they are two different coatings, but I see that the Silver Knights are generally a bit cheaper in some stores, so I've been wondering if there's a difference in quality. Or if the Red Speeds just became more popular and therefore go for a higher price even though the burr geometry is identical. I've seen some reports that the difference in the cup is indistinguishable. I've seen some suggestion that the Red Speeds run a bit faster or cooler, whereas the Silver Knights are harder... but I really have no concept of what the better choice would be for someone who will use these burrs exclusively for filter coffee at home.
