Can't get Breville SGP fine enough

The problem is probably due to the age of your Breville SGP.Originally posted by gregeeh View PostHi all,
My neighbour has a Breville SGP and I went to help them dial in some new beans. I've noticed I cannot slow down the extraction enough even when the internal adjustment is on 1 and the side adjustment is also on 1.
17 gms in and 40 gms out in 16 seconds. Also it takes around 20 seconds to grind that 17 gms, which seems rather high.
Machine is 4 years old.
Suggestions greatly appreciated as to what might be the cause. Would new Upper Burr Assy help? Or is it time for a new grinder.
TIA
In recent years Breville introduced a refinement in the hard set grind refinement settings in the SGP that makes it pretty easy to get finer settings with a twist of the bur - see video below:

As your neighbour's SGP is 4 years old it might not have that simple adjustment option. Contact Breville to see if they can get a couple of shims sent out (which raises the bottom burr) to fix the problem.

Are the beans fresh and grind plenty fine enough in a known good grinder?
If yes, I have heard of this happening, it's a manufacturing defect and Breville should replace it for free.
