  • Burr Upgrade for Compak K3

Hi All, I have an 11 year old Compak K3 touch. I’m looking for ways to up my coffee game and unfortunately buying a better grinder is not an option. So thought one idea could be upgrading the existing grinders 58mm burr set?

SSP burrs would be amazing but they’re very expensive. Especially when you consider their price is 50% of a new Compak K3.

Are there any other burr sets I could look at that would be considered an upgrade on the stock Compak 58mm burrs?

Supplementary question - are burr sets interchangeable between brands or can you only use ones for you specific machine?

If the burrs are due for change just get generic ones. Maybe check burrs alignment? Otherwise save the money.

I just had my Comapk F8 OD apart for some maintenance and I looked at the cost of new burrs, not that grinder needs it, ive barely put 120kgs through it since new burrs. 83mm SSP burrs (600$) way too much to spent on old grinder IMO. I rather put 600$ towards Lagom P100.

Looking at the pics from some of the new grinders, it seems like design has come a long way to reduce retention. Just better sweeper arms, chute exit, no big exposed nut that sits in middle.

This is my F8 few days ago, I done realignment after pulling burrs out to clean up coffee oils.

I wouldn't recommend using any of the generic burr-set options out there.
My personal experience with these found that the quality of steel used is considerably sub-par compared to original OEM burr-sets. They just don't last anywhere as long before replacement is needed again.

      Mal.

I haven't had too much experience with Burrs so ill take your word for it, I get mine from AU retailers.

My assumption was based on knowing a lot of stuff that is OEM, manufactured in China and then you can buy same item from same factory without stamp for 1/3rd price.

I'm definitely jumping onto SSP hype train next grinder i get.
