I bought the Niche Zero direct and landed it right at the $1k price point. If you enjoy heavy body shots and milk drinks, I think it's a great grinder. It's super forgiving on grind with a large range for almost all beans. It's workflow for single doses is unmatched at this price range and a beautiful grinder in the kitchen.
If you want something that works right out the box, the Niche is what you want.
DF64 needs a lot of love to be where you want it to be.

Thanks for the input.
I had considered the Niche Zero but new they are outside my budget and have only seen a few advertised here under $1000 and they are rare as hens teeth.
The DF64 I haven't looked at or heard much about.

My suggestions for your consideration might be:
- Niche Zero
- DF64.
With the NZ - its ease of adjustment and workflow are possibly some of the best that you'll get in that price point youve indicated as a starting budget. It wont knock your socks off from a pure filter/pourover perspective due to the amount of fines that a conical burr is known for, but its passable for an occassional. Its forgiving and super easy to dial in for espresso.
The DF64 is often compared (or even complementary) to a NZ in terms of grinder value. Its a 64mm flat burr, meaning that you've got a lot of options when it comes to SSP burr upgrades if you want to experiment. Because of its adjustability, the DF64 will also easily allow you to adjust back and forth between espresso and filter brew. The only downside to this grinder is the static meaning its a bit more messy without the use of RDT.
You could find both of these grinders in good used condition on this forum. The DF64 will be much cheaper though.

I am being overly harsh with my comments on the E55, these are just very nitpicky statements.
In terms of grind quality for espresso, no complaints.

I don't have experience with the Mahlkoenig X54 but I used the Eureka Mignon Specialita for espresso before upgrading to a niche.
If you plan to brew anything other than espresso with it I would 100% advise against the Eureka, it's not designed for it.- It's not designed to be single dosed, it's defs a hopper grinder
- Needs 4-5 revolutions on the dial to get from espresso to filter V60
- Doesn't do a great job brewing anything other than espresso
- It's a rather messy grinder when used with single dose and bellows due to the angle of the chute
- Porterfilter fork isn't great, it's doesn't fit some bigger ones and design is questionable.
- Doesn't work with grinding into a dosing cup

I can give you a view as I've owned both. I don't want to sit on the fence but both in my opinion are great grinders and I don't think you will go wrong with either of the, that said....
if I had my pick based on Looks, id go personally with the X54
If I had my pick on grind consistency i think they both do well however I feel the quality of the X54 grind at the finer end is one more consistent but less clumpy as i feel the E55 clumps a little for me.
IF i had my choice for grind settings id choose the E55 as i feel the only bad thing about the X54 is the dial for grind setting change is a little annoying. One it has a plastic feel to it and two the ability to move the dial and its ergonomics isn't great for a grinder that in every other way is fantastic.
Good luck with what you choose and as I said up above, i dont think you will got wrong with either.
Kind regards,
Chris Priestley

Mahlkoenig X54 vs Eureka Mignon Specialita 55
Hello Brains Trust,
I am picking up Snowy3's used Decent DE1+ and looking to pair it with a grinder.
At this stage I am considering the above 2 grinders in the $700 - $1000 range and wonder on peoples opinions on each.
I primarily drink espresso based drinks but also make quite a bit of cold brew in summer (and have a nitro setup if I am feeling adventurous) so something that was easy to adjust back and forwards would be ideal. If neither of those (or anything else in the price range fit the description) I do still have my Breville Smart Grinder sitting around and could probably fall back to that for non espresso.
Appreciate your input.
