Day two: ground fresh beans at grind setting 0 and spot on. Interesting that it is at the finest setting out of the box without altering the burr position. Clearly this outcome is using the Normcore double shot naked filter and Normcore V4 tamper and obviously has potential to be different with other equipment but a very satisfying outcome for the second day. Intend leaving it as is for a week or so and then and only if necessary, make further adjustments.

    Breville Dose control Pro

I wouldn't usually bother mentioning this appliance in such August company but FNQ did ask, so the initial findings are....
Finally picked it up from the Major Department Store Click n Collect on the 7th day. First time use of this service and I was underwhelmed so not likely to happen again regularly if at all.
Well packed, not even any marks on the factory box.
The manual is pretty basic but that may well be all that is ever needed. Too early to tell.
Setup is really basic, wash to parts and reassemble. I started at setting 10 for Espresso, in the middle of the recommendations. Put some beans through just to get a feel for the grind. At setting 10 it was noticeably coarser than my current grinders output. While the very first coffee was marginally OK, it certainly has some fine tuning to do to produce the same result as the 19 year old Starbucks grinder.
I expect that I will need to put some amount of beans through it to "break it in" so my current comments are at a transient point. Rather than chase my tail I'll run it for a week somewhere between 0-5 before deciding if I need to adjust the grind internally.
I control my dose by other means so all I really needed was a grinder that gives a consistent espresso quality output. The timer is actually just an On/Off switch for my beans. It would be nice to have a receiver / container to grind into but in the absence, there are multiple containers around the house that capture any stray bits that might otherwise fly around.
Day one- More than adequate quality for the price. Now it's time to see if
    a. It lasts
    b. The grind sweet spot can be found
Otherwise it ticks my boxes and has less electronics to fail in the future.
