  • Eureka Mignon Oro First Time Use

I just bit the bullet and got a Mignon Oro to replace my trusty Breville SGP. The manual is worse than useless.

Is it simply a matter of weighing, grinding, timing the pour? I put 18g in today and had 50g out in 20 sec

Looks like you need a finer grind. Depending on whether you drink ristretto or espresso you should be looking at 1.5 times or 2 times the volume out in about 26 seconds.

Thanks...I will try adjusting it by one on the dial tomorrow and see what happens

Which of the Mignon Oro models do you have? There are at least 2.

the single dose one. I assume the other is the XL?

      That's correct

Moving it from 3 to 2 completely choked my machine. It seems to be quite sensitive.

Yes, I have the XL (same 65mm burrs) and I normally adjust the dial by just a couple of mm, 1/3 of a digit at most for a different type of beans.
Still, there seems to be something else going on. You shouldn't have to go that close to the point where the burrs touch.
As an indication, I do 2:1, ie: 18g for 36g of coffee out in about 30 secs. The grinding part takes ~10 secs.

After running it for a while I can definitely say it grinds better than the Breville. Interesting though, I'm measuring retention at anywhere between 0.5-1.2g. Is that real world normal?

Thanks. I've been increasing the coarseness, currently just under 4 and it's slower than ideal but getting close. I ran out of beans but have a fresh roast from 2 days ago to try in the morning.

I have the XL , for espresso I am adjusting somewhere between 3 and 4 depending on beans and freshness.
My burr’s touch at about 0.2 on the dial, There possibly is a way to zero the knob, but I have never worried about it.

Burrs touching would be really bad wouldn't it?
    Working...
