But be aware that overseas Ebay and AliExpress purchases, regardless of cost, will have GST added at the point of sale..... Some other suppliers might also do that.

How do those funds make it back here into our taxation system?

Any Australian retailer will be able to supply Hypernova titanium. Looks like the Hypernova ultra variant is not yet here though.

tompoland likes to test grinder burrs - and yes, he has tried the standard burrs, the hypernova AND the hypernova ultra. The ultra came out after I purchased my grinder (with standard burrs) and I then upgraded to the hypernova purchased from Varia (they weren't available in Australia).
Tom also ordered the Ultra direct from Varia as soon as they became available. I asked him if it was worth upgrading to the ultra and his response was no. An upgrade to hypernova is definitely worthwhile (which I can also attest to) but no real improvement from the ultra

P.S. both hypernova burrs grind more slowly than the standard burrs.... so is speed or flavour more important?

If i'm picking up what you're putting down...
The Varia website essentially says that any import duties or local taxes will be the responsibility of the purchaser and they will not collect import duty at point of sale.

If the grinder in question is sub $1000au, you shouldn't need to pay import duty on it once it lands in Aus

tompoland, just referencing JavaB 's comments. I thought you tried the Hypernova, not the Hypernova Ultra?

Main difference is coating and the ultra has a pre-grinding teeth to make grinding faster I think.

And thanks for the info guys! ☺️

Yep seeing the OP mentioned AU it is Australian GST.
He also wants hypernova ultra burrs which don't seem to be available yet here (and from what you said earlier are no improvement on the hypernova burrs I run here - and a lot more expensive!)

If I remember correctly you said you wouldn't purchase the ultra again

I'm a bit confused. You are refencing "VAT" and "I don't see in AU yet". Probably me being too literal again but the Austrlian equivalent is GST.

If it's an Australian GST question, customes charge 10% of the offshore purchase price (exlcuding shipping) on goods $1,000 or more. They are reasonably consistent about this. A Varia VS3 and/or Hypernova burrs comes in well under that so you could safely assume there will be no GST (VAT) changed.

And I think you are right in that the Hypernova burrs have yet to arrive at the likes of site sponsors such as AlternativeBrewing but if someone from AB sees this post they may be able to give you an update.

BTW, the Hypernova burrs are worth every cent, and then some.

(If your question really is about VAT for importing into the UK, you may want to post on the UK formum CoffeeTime)

Question on VAT for Varia VS3

Hey guys! I'm looking at the Varia VS3 with Hypernova Ultra burrs (new burr, which I don't see in AU yet).

It's currently on sale on Varia's website, but they stated that the consumers are responsible for VAT after purchase. I haven't been able to find VAT for personal use (mostly info for businesses)

Does anyone have any experience in buying from abroad? Just want to make sure I take into account all the costs and don't want to get hit by a hefty VAT ?

    Thanks!
Working...
