I'm trying to understand the need for such a grinder to be able to switch between 98mm and 102mm.

For the sake of clarity, based on my post above of the email from Option-O, this appears to be a relacement for the P100, with the same 98mm burr set but also with the option of an additional or alternative burr set, yet to be identified.
It's a big grinder (see pic below comparing footprint to a Niche Duo which is a large grinder.)
Depending on price, previous model P100s may depreciate or appreciate in value.

I believe he (Lance) is well intentioned and offering an honest opinion.
I do agree that his style / format tends to be long winded, and it makes it somewhat harder to compare his opinions of different products - especially when I’ve got my own biases about what’s value or not.
I’ve cherry picked a few things that stood out to me about the review, because I feel like the review casts the P100 as “so-so”, and my cherry picked argument is essentially that it’s not about 100% of that’s in the cup… there are other things you’re getting when you spend your money on a P100.
And that affirms my bias, having spent extra money on a P64 rather than just buying a DF64.
Lance probably, like me, has some inherent bias, and as you point out, I don’t think his style of presentation lends itself to highlighting where his personal bias are, and how to compare his opinion of products between different deep dive reviews.

Well his nitpicking is not unfounded. He mentioned multiple times that the same burrs in the ek43 produced better cups with the caveat that the ek43 has alignment mods and has awful workflow and is more expensive. So its fair to criticise the p100 for leaving some performance on the table. As for the zerno. Afaik it’s unobtainium and as Australians the p100 has price advantages so its not a comparison.

tofu. Good point. 2nd hand P100's are rare and still quite pricey.
2nd Hand EK43's are becoming more common and can be bought for under $3k. Yes they are big, and have workflow issues. They are also rated to be used in Cafes and are built like a tank.
If your main concern is the result in the cup at the best price point, EK43S (2nd hand) wins. When other factors come into the decision making process, the P100 has many advantages.
