Arrived today! Seasoned it with a light coating of oil and some good old fashioned popcorn (darn kids discovered it when they got home with Mr Hoyks before I did!)

I can see why you would need to put it in the heavy based saucepan - it heats up really quick!

Now, next stop - green beans and a slight mod to the battery operated barbecue spit thingy (sorry Honey!) and handle of the WP and Bobs your Auntys Live in Lover (because they never got married!)

        Hi Hoyks,

Good to see that it turned up before Christmas. I have banned popcorn in this pop corn maker until I no longer it used for roasting coffee!

I have found that with the WP you need about 50-60 RPM to get guarantee an even roast and yes it is so light weight I did not even bother trying roasting with out putting it in frying pan.

Can’t wait to here about your first roast.

        Brett

          Hi Brett

All set to go - husbands rigged me up an auto-turner by using a cordless drill with the case cutt off it and attached to a transformer, so now Im just waiting on the BeanBay at the end of the month to get some green beans and away Ill go! [smiley=thumbsup.gif]

How are you going with your roasting?

          Cheers

            Hi Hoyks,

I am looking forward to hear about your results. I have been having a good time roasting and happy with the results.

            I have encountered a couple of problems;

            1. The plastic window in the WP became coffee coloured and melted slightly so removed it. This caused some heat too escape and the roast times got a bit long. I have responded by turning up the heat but I should get a piece of high temperature glass.

            2. I have replaced the motor with a larger one as it was too small for the job (gears stripped) it did about ten roast.

The larger one from jaycar.com.au CAT. NO. YG2738 will not have this problem as it has 50kgs of torque (the other one had 2kgs). It can operate between 6-12V I am running it at 7.5V.

            Cheers
            Brett

                Hi Brett

Sorry, I didnt see your post! Well, the WP died an unfortunate death at the hands of Pete, unfortunately - you can always trust a tradie to try and over-engineer something!

Ive since been using a wok on the wok burner of the BBQ, which is quite cathartic, I have to say - something nice about getting back to the grass roots of roasting and only takes about 8 minutes from start to finish!

Were now toying with a BBQ spit roaster - the beauty about the WP was that it gave Pete the taste (so to speak!) for getting into the roasting side of things! My cunning plan worked!

Did you see the pic of me in the BeanScene magazine with the BWilks WPJr starring in the picture? I didnt mention you by name, but I did give you anonymous credit for the idea!

                How is yours going?

                Cheers

                  Hi Hoyks,

Its still going with a few repairs (the gears started to slip on the shafts so I put pins through the gear and shafts, fixed!).

Now I am doing 500g roasts with out a problem. Once I accidently did a 640g by mistake.

I have totally got the hang of it and can get repeatable even roasts.

I am planning to build a new one of similar design but make it more robust and may event incorporate a bean cooler.

I did not see the pic in BeanScene can you send me a link?

                  Cheers

                  Brett
