    Re: QM1462 datalogging Dmm

I have already taken it back once, and noted the crappy replacement when I picked it up. They are supposed to be contacting me when they had a second replacement. The problem with getting my money back is that I now rely on the DMM too much, it is far more accurate and consistent than using the inbuilt Hot top temp - Having to roast between FC and SC without the other day showed me how much i need it.

As soon as Andy comes up with some , ill take this one back.

    Hmmm,

Have experienced no such problems with my particular unit (QM1462) and I use it pretty often for all manner of things. Mind you, I bought mine some time ago and maybe quality issues hadnt reared its ugly head at that time. I wouldnt accept those problems SC..... Take it back to Jaycar and ask for your money back mate then buy a meter from Andy when thats all sorted out,

    Cheers,
    Mal.

    Not much fun!

The QM1538 is the only meter that we ever tested and approved, others may work but often the results are going to be similar. I suspect the reason Jaycar no longer stock some of the meters like qm1462 is for just those reasons... poor build quality.

Still, if you are lucky and get one that works then it should keep working!

I have posted a meter update in the software thread:

These work well with the CS Roast Montor software at times... but they are CRAPPY... I have returned one already because the threads in the USB port missmatched the screws in the suplied fitting - and one of them was not even cut!
The replacement one had both threads cut but they were still the wrong thread, I jammed them in anyway.

Using the multimeter is very finicky, it keeps switching itself between celcius and farenheight (as well as displaying completly random temps) which stuffs up the CS roast monitor. Dring My last two roasts this got so bad between FC and SC that I could not get any reliable reading at all had to go purely by colour and sound (which is a pain when you want to pull before SC).

The celcius/farenhight button rarely works. I have found I can change it to celcius by swithcing the dial a few clicks to the right then back to temp.

I have only had the DMM about 6 weeks but I have just put a new Duracell battery in it to see if it solves my problems.

    QM1462 datalogging Dmm

Hi Guys. Just a heads up on these discontinued datalogging multimeters. I bought one today from Jaycar in Thomastown for $89, they were showing none at all on their system and tried to sell me something cheaper. I asked if they had an alternative with a datalogger and they pulled this one from the shelf-"oh hang on, this is a QM1462". Although there are no more at Thomastown, there a four in stock a the city store abekket(?) st I believe.
    God Bless and merry christmas...
