Re: Roasting your own
I currently use a corretto and i find best results from roasting 500gm batches but currently our coffee consumption is down due to the current diet me and the war dept. are on so i think i will look at KKs project and see if i can make it and try smaller batches with that system.

I am just getting into it..AM after seeing my roaster in the fleshProblem is I have tended to do 250g batches and by the time they have rested for 4 - 5 days I am using them and not enough left to do any thing other than grind and drink...
I thought you wanted to build a roaster like my Turbo Roaster
Small batches are not a problem or you could roast 600 grams of greens so you dont run out of beans to quickly

Also one of the reasons I wanted to catch last weekend :-(
You able to make it this weekend ?

Re: Roasting your own
Me too.. Too messy and time comsuming etc etc..Originally posted by 5965786369687F6A62690D0 link=1231155808/13#13 date=1234247598I said that once too.Originally posted by 3F2E3B01353730395E0 link=1231155808/11#11 date=1234237407I never imagined I would ever roast my own coffee
Now that I have a HT.... I am just getting into it..
Single origin at present and enjoying the different outcomes..
Am concerned that until I get a temp logger and stop looking at what I am doing all the time... My record keeping is just a bunch of notes that I can not read, a day later.
Too interested in watching what is going on and learning about the HT...
At some stage I will make a couple of batches and then attempt to do a blend... Or just be laze and buy beans that are suitable as a true single batch process.
Problem is I have tended to do 250g batches and by the time they have rested for 4 - 5 days I am using them and not enough left to do any thing other than grind and drink...

Re: Roasting your own
Thats what happens when the roasting bug bites
The result is not unpleasant as better coffee is the result

Re: Roasting your own
I never imagined I would ever roast my own coffee, I thought that it
was too difficult / too time consuming...
I was wanting to save money to feed my addiction, and after two months of me buying my silvia and rocky I gave roasting a go in a popper and the results were so impressive I havent stopped.
I now have a correto setup which is producing better roasts all the time as I keep learning the little tricks to using it!

Re: Roasting your own
I am following in my grandmothers footsteps she roasted her own coffee beans, chick peas, peanuts and more the old fashion way
I was roasting B/4 I joined coffee snobs but have expanded my knowledge immensely and I am better for it
I have recently made a home made roaster that works so well that it has exceeded my expectations
You will never-never know if you never-never try

Re: Roasting your own
For me the need to roast my own came about partially from a lack of fresh local beans and the need to do the best i can with what i had. I had been getting some coffee from a large chain GJ but after trying fresh stuff from St Ali I new what I had to do. Either travel 32kms to Sth Melb once a week or roast my own. So I got some roasted from Andy to try his beans and then the rest is history.

Re: Roasting your own
Before I joined CS I would not have every imagined myself roasting coffee beans. But after reading about beanbay starter packs and realising we had a popcorn machine in the cupboard I started my journey in the wonderul world of home roasting. Killed the popper trying to do 5 roasts on the hop so a Corretto was hastily constructed and refined over a year or so, having lovely fresh beans roasted the way I like them, what more could a coffeesnob ask for?????
