My two month old Imex CR100 purchased via ebay blew the other day. The unit was used only once every second or third day with 120gms which is below the recommended volume. It just blew up a soon as it was switched on. I tried a second time and still the same. I guess just unfortunate as there are some members that have used their Imex for a much longer period with no problems. It also blew my desktop computer which was on a surge board which did not trip burning its power supply. Ive upgraded the desktop but its back to using a fry pan for roasting. Not considering switching to corretto (space restrictions )as yet. Might have to go by the way of the popcorn machine again. Does anybody out there have some sort of configuration using a gas bbq or other suggestions ?

Full build details are posted its not to hard to make if you are a handy person.Originally posted by 5C4952564859423B0 link=1234133044/4#4 date=1234147293You could build one of KKs roasters based on a turbo oven.
They are very compact.

Re: Imex CR100 roaster Defunct
Hi Carloz,
Jeez! Two months is not a very good deal. Wasnt it under warranty?
My first CR100 lasted 7 months before it burnt out an element. I had averaged 8 X 120gm batches per month. That works out to about $18 per month, and 40 cents for roasting per cup of coffee, after I paid $125 for the roaster.
Ive just bought another new Imex for slightly more. My view is that they are pretty much a glorified popcorn machine, but at least 200% easier to use. Unfortunately my domestic financial planning consultant does not see the wisdom of investing in a Hottop or Gene machine, and I cant be bothered with going back to my old popper, so I got another CR100.
At least I get freshly roasted beans of my choice, done how I want them, and great cups of coffee. Certainly, I am annoyed my CR100 was not more durable, but my old $39 popper was also looking pretty shabby after 6-7 months, and the element may not have lasted that much longer either, before I got the Imex.
So for the convenience factor, for the amount of coffee that I consume, and for the small shelf space in the cupboard for the machine, I dont have another option for now.
If I bought roasted beans somewhere it would have cost me double the cost of green, they may not have been the type or roast that I wanted, and by the time I finished them, maybe past their use by date.
So for me, I hope Imex #2 hangs in a bit longer. I might just start an investment account to save up all the money I am now not spending at my local cafes to go towards a better roaster!
